I am needing help from some fellow NP'ers in this situation. I have no known allergies or asthma where my brother has severe cases of both. I now have 2 adult cats and 1 young kitten we are fostering for the time being. The kitten is in isolation due to what looks to be ringworm which I now know are a fungal spore. My question is would an air purifier/ sterilizer be enough to 1.) kill the ringworm spores and 2.) allow my brother to visit without throwing him into a severe asthma attack?

If ANY of you use these type of products I could really use your help in this situation as to what works for you and what doesnt.

Thanks in advance.

Allergen Reducers would be best suited for your purpose and AllergenReducers.com is available for Reg in case you need the Domain too.

You need to choose between your cats and your brother.
Which are more important to you?

If you can do ways to keep your cats away from your brother as much as possible, do it, but don't think of killing or throwing them. For skin allergies, there are many anti-fungal creams, shampoos you can use to to your cats.

you may want to keep your cats away for a while just as long as your brother stays with you. You can build a house for them at the back then have an air purifier to sterilize the air inside your house. About your ringworm spores, ask your dermitologist for a cure.

Phoebe, I am more disturbed by the fact you even think this is a suggestion I would consider. I am an animal lover and have rescued many of them and not once have I ever consider this an option.

I'm sorry I didn't mean that. In some cases people do such harsh things, but since you love your cats, I know you will never do things to hurt them.

I do have four cats at home and 2 dogs and I love them all.

I think Gchicks suggestion is better ;) Build a comfortable house at the backyard for your cat, so you can still have time to visit & play with him. I own 2 cats at home named Tom & Jerry.Whenever I'm alone I talked to them, & for me they're part of my family ;)

Oh that's really a problem, but as I've heard one may take pills and keep animals, the thing is it's hard to find one that would suit you

They say you have a 75% chance of it solving your problem, asthma included.

Phoebe, no hard feelings =)

As for building a backyard I would love too but I am in a 2nd story apartment and the closest thing I have to a yard is a parking lot. I have found a solution though and will be going with a HEPA Air purifier and the vet prescribed Clorhexadine (bactricidal shampoo) for the cats.

MediaHound, Thanks again for the link. I've never heard of that stuff but I'll look into it.
