As I said simply my opinion but little point in cornering a relatively small market with names that are generally meaningless outside of China.

Having 300,000 domain names already means they have now increased their expenses by around 10%- per year.

Or, perhaps it's an incredibly smart move.

who knows, maybe smart, maybe stupid :)
Let's wait :)

If it's a register then can probably afford it as their icann fee is about $0.18c renewal per domain a year. The advantage of being a register.

I think it would be smarter to locate pinyin LLLL.com on the drops, auctions for under $200 and hold for 5+years for a very healthy ROI. IMO

Those of us who have been around the boards long enough can remember when there was almost an LLLL.net buyout before. Here is the thread that discussed it some time ago. Things were very close, but with so many LLLL combinations it's hard for it to go and then hold.

I personally think this investment could say something. Although there are less combinations, you saw what happened with NNNN.net. Definitely something to keep a watch on, and maybe invest a little just in case ;)

Agreed it is something to watch and if interested nibble, I don't believe right now you can buy 100 and flip them instantly, it is interesting that they are being registered. I can say way before this, I always liked 4L.net that were CVCV I have owned a few but never have had any meaningful sales, maybe a handregged sold for $80 to $100 but I did not own enough for it to matter. I have had more success with LLTV.net, I have sold several in the $299 to $399 range. I still hold some LLtv.net and I do hold a few others, eyez.net being the best of the bunch.

So, have LNN, NNL, NLL and LLN.net all been bought out too?

Would be strange if they skipped those and went strought to 4L.

@marsi What letters are you considering "Premium"?
i think he is pointing to chinese premium *without a,e,i,o,u,v all letters are considered chinese premium

No -- none of them have vowels or V's, but he says some have 3 premium, some have 2 premium, etc. Maybe he is using those Pinyin letters as "premium" that were discussed above.

That is true that I used the Pinyin letters as a reference; I'm no expert on the Chinese letters but I also analyzed about 40K domains (using Excel strings macros) and I found out that the most taken ones do follow the hierarchy of the Pinyin letters that is published above.

Once again I'm no expert, attached is the complete LLLL.net list should someone benefit from it, thanks!

@Beezy

That is what is left from the complete list when I did a bulk check a sec ago ;)
I'm sure the premium ones have been back-ordered or snatched by SnapName, NameJet,.....etc.

I bid on a nice one before...was winning with 50 seconds left and I walked away from the browser thinking I was going to the only bid...came back 5 minutes later to see that I lost.

Don't you have to pay $59-69 minimum for backorder at Snapname, NameJet and Pool?

LLLL.net don't sell for that much yet.
What is the point in backordering then?

Indeed, and I even grabbed a few not long ago (for personal use).
I think domainers are now paying attention just because of the LLLL.com bubble, as if LLLL.net were the next big thing...
As FPForum mentioned above, it's nothing new really.

The only new thing is if the 160,000 Chinese premium combos were bought out and especially if a couple entities control a large percentage, you want to keep tabs an a domainer who already owns some, so as not to give them away or drop them. You may not get wealthy but at least keep on top of what you got. Most people would tend to drop XZRJ.net, now it might be worth holding for a year to see what is going on with this buyout of the 160,000 Chinese premium.

Recently I made a couple defensive-type registrations, where I own the LLLL.com. I wouldn't normally do that, but these were special cases. Glad now I did, this was 1-2 months back, as they probably would've been picked up by the recent Chinese investor/speculator.

Premium domains sells for a lot more than the $59; Domaining also involve speculation and taking risks; sometime it works, others don't. One should evaluate the market and weight the cost benefit before jumping!

Example: LLLL. Com were $5 , and 5N com $10 (@gd closeout domains less than a year ago)!!!

Today is another Story!!

The problem here is that there's no sales of LLLL.net either of premium Chinese letters of non-premium can be seen right now. Check last week sales and tell me if you see any:

http://www.goldnames.com/domain-name-sales/215

Not saying that few years from now this names will command $50-100, but right now the market for LLLL.net is non-existent. I can understand that some Chinese investor bought 30K names for $9 each.
But I can't see why someone would pay $60 to backorder them 3 days after.

That's why I don't think that anyone ordering LLLL.net through Snapnames, Namejet and Pool yet. People catching them by themselves, imho.
