Hey. This may be a stupid question but what is Alexa? Does it increase the value of a domain?

I'm considering purchasing a .info domain with an alexa rating of 32,630. How much would this sell for? Also, (sorry), How can I check this alexa rating is accurate. Thank you :)

Alexa is supposed to measure the popularity of websites. Sites are ranked based on how often (and for how long) people with the Alexa toolbar installed visit them. Unfortunately, too few people have the toolbar installed to produce reliable results, and those who do have it installed are in many ways unrepresentative (likely to be more techy than average users). It's also open to abuse / distortion; webmasters can improve their sites' rankings either by encouraging regular visitors to install the toolbar, or by installing it and surfing their own sites themselves. All in all, you shouldn't place much weight on Alexa ranking.

Even if Alexa were reliable, though, there's a lot more that goes into determining the value of a site, so it would be impossible to answer your original question without more information.

Alexa might be flawed, but don't "not consider" the name, just because it has an Alexa score.

32,000 in alexa can be quite good. Generally, Alexa only cares about sites under 100,000 in their ranking system; within those - under 10,000 are prime.

Alexa scores can be "faked" be redirects.

Do other research in considering the name.

I always thought that the alexa ranking are based upon a cookie spread onto major sites. Guess I was wrong.

Very few people have the toolbar installed for it to be reliable, it's open to manipulation, and it tends to favour techy sites whose visitors are more likely to have the toolbar installed than other users. So you should not make a decision relying totally on alexa ranking.

Yep, I would not buy a domain based purely on Alexa ranking ... I just use it as another tool in the kit. The more information you find out then the better you can see it's true value .... Basing that on just one result ( Alexa or any other for that matter ) will not give you the full picture.

All the best

DomainSage is right and I want to add more tips...

I think its not pro to say Alexa is not good.
Some of my domains have good Alexa ranking and the traffic is great.
When you find a domain that having Alexa good ranking , check if it has links, and sure it is better that this domain has good keywords too , or nice history as a site.

Good Luck
