There not a waste of time. They make people alot of money. Some people earn a fulltime income from it, while others are rich from doing it.

It looks like you are just most probably putting ads on your site and thats it. It's not easy and as time goes by you keep learning and getting better.

I have been doing this for over 6 years and am still learning daily. I do it fulltime and quit my job over 3 years ago. My income is all from affiliate marketing. It can be done, but it takes alot of time and work. It is not a thing where you can make a site one day, put ads on it the next, promote for a few days and then become a millionnaire.

Anyway, hope you have some good success.

Also have you tried Adsense?

Lots of people make 20,000 a month or more. I even know affiliates that make $200,000 a month.

However it's not easy and affiliates that just throw up some banners typically don't earn much if anything at all.

Couple of the main keys to success.

1) You must promote TARGETED products that match the interests of your visitors. If you put insurance banners or even web hosting on a tech gadget blog you probably wont do well.

2) You need LOTS of targeted traffic. Most affiliate programs only convert at .5 -2% (same % for most direct etail sales.) So for 100 visitors you may 0. 1 or 2 sales. Lots of affiliates quit after just 50 clicks if they don't make a sale. That's just not enough.

3) Text links convert MUCH better than banner ads.

There's alot more to it, but those are a couple things. The stickies in my newbie affiliate forum have tons more advice and my blog has tons of info too.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

I agree. Text links convert. Also i'd suggest you start writing or hire someone to write 20+ articles on that topic. Then you can insert your affiliate links in articles.

Make sure the articles titles are catchy and also very informative. Reviews are even better than the usual, generic article.

Just my 2cents ;)

affiliates are a nice source of income for some people. All depends on what you do really. Need to be related to your website of course and get traffic to it. targeted traffic preffered for best results.

Affiliate programs are awesome when you have all the elements that make them work. What you should try doing is moving your affiliate stuff around, and test which links get clicked on(even if no sale converts). Keep them in their highest clicked areas and work from there to make sales.

It is what you make of them. You promote the hell out of it... you should be doing fine... if you just let them sit there you know how that goes :)

5StarAffiliate has some good ideas. Also, you can presell your programs, too.

You always want to make sure your traffic is targeted. IF you get garbage traffic you not going to get any sales! I would take 10 targeted visitors over 1000 untargeted any day.

Yes I would have to agree with this topic 100% traffic is always good but if it is not converting then does no good unless you load up ads on your site for clicks...

targeted traffic is the absolute key in this and having the relevant banners up for that traffic will bring you much more joy.
