Adding prices to Sedo...

So the past year I have an ZERO offers at Sedo. The previous year I had many offers so I have to wonder..what's different?

I know there might be more competition but I have never gotten an afternic offer either.

So...I wanted to know is it maybe because I don't list prices? Does having it open for any offer make buyers wary of price gouging or are they searching for domains under a certain price?

I am thinking of spending the time to go through my entire portfolio (400+ parked) and adding prices to see if there is a difference.

so far we've had the strategy of listing as high as you can ($9,999) and as low as you can ($60)

IMHO, what we need is something as user friendly as ebay, without attracting the crooks and crud somehow. if someone comes up with that, we'll be laughing

I list every domain at Sedo for $60.00 (the minimum). Then when someone offers the minimum, I counter offer with my actual price I am asking. This way I can gauge interest in each domain and it bumps up the "bids" count next to the domain and makes it look more sought after.

Remember, just because you list it at a certain price, that doesn't mean if someone offers you that you have to accept it. I get a few offers a day usually and about half are serious about buying the domain instead of looking to get it at an insanely low price.

I have to admit I never realized this and it sounds a good technique (rep added), I thought you would be obliged to sell at the Price set, so I guess you would have to have "Minimum" set to blank?

Be careful when doing this strategy of listing low at Afternic and make sure you put the number in the right field. That is how iReit got burned :)

Nope -- that's just the asking price, which can be countered or sent to auction. :)

If what you're saying were the case, I'd own a few LLL .com for a few hundred dollars by now. :hehe:

I sort of wish Sedo had a "buy it now" option, rather than playing guessing games with buyers who will counter your offer (even if you offer their asking price).

The minimum offer field is simply the lowest amount a potential buyer can offer. If I have a minimum offer of $500 on a name, Sedo will not allow you to offer $400 unless I had a $400 minimum or nothing entered.

They kind of do, if you set your Price Option as "fixed price" you're obligated to take that price. The thing is, nobody sets their prices that way.

It would be nice to have it as an additional setting "BIN", then we'd have the best of all worlds.

That's correct...if you set it as "Fixed Price," it automatically gets sold at that price if someone offers it.

From Sedo:

"Fixed price:
The system only accepts offers which exactly match your specified fixed price. Please note that, once your given price is matched, you are obliged to sell at this price!"

Yea, Sedo does have a buy it now type of thing, it's just that people rarely use it. I can't across it for the first time a few days ago and I've been using Sedo for a long time.

I don't see where I can specify whether it's a fixed price, or an "open to negotiation" price.

Select the "Sales" view in the management interface (under the "Please choose:" drop-down menu)

I think 400+ is not large enough to guarantee any offers.

i dont agree with this as quality comes before quantity..
u may have 2000 domains but not receive any offers at all
but a small portfolio of 50 quality domains may receive offers everymonth or week or even everyday..i rather have quality domains than quantity
cheers

Exactly, I never hold more than 30 domains at a time, but I get offers almost daily on Sedo.

hopefully not off-topic
B-)

how do people decide between parking their names at sedo (and saving on commission) and putting up a mini site (to help protect against TM suits?)

a tough one with generic-ish company names in the $1k plus bracket

I know you hold a lot of junk LLLL's which junk LLLL would get you some offers? The art of "probability" in domaining is just amazing, even though most of you don't agree with me.

I would certainly agree with you if the names are as good as some of the ones you've got in your sig (VERY nice LLLL.com names there)!

However, the point is that having 1000 crap names isn't necessarily going to get you any more offers than 100 excellent names. When someone looks at your names, it's not usually going to be in the context of all your other names...they're not going to be picking out one of the bunch to bid on. Rather, they're going to see whatever name happens to come up in their searching, and if it's a lousy name, they're not going to waste their time on it.
