I have used both Gimp and Photoshop and I can tell you. Photoshop is much easier and user-friendly.

I would highly suggest you go with GIMP unless you want to do professional design work. If you are creating your own websites or need a good graphic program here and there...even everyday, go with GIMP. I love it and I am SOOO glad I didn't spend the money on Photoshop. There has NEVER been a time that I thought, "gee, photoshop would sure be great right now".
