A small call for help

Hey everyone.

In December I adopted a dog from the Orange county animal services in Orlando FL. He was 4 months old and had been there for almost a month before I came along. He was found wandering a busy intersection. Well $1000+ in vet bills for various problems (kennel Cough, Ear infection, Shots, Heartguard, Etc) was ok. But last night the dog developed what I think might be a serious problem.

As funny as it might sound me and my buddy were hanging out and he asked me why my dogs tail was hanging over to his right side. Although it looked odd i didnt think much of it. Well about a hour later the dog was up on his favorite chair and he jumped(rather slid) off it like he does 10 times a day. But this time his back legs gave out on him, but he got right back up.

But once he got up I noticed he was staggering like he was drunk. His back end was following his tail ( to the right) as he was trying to walk straight. Almost as though he has no muscle control. Here is where my problem is.

I have a welness plan at the Banfield animal hospital and it covers his vet visits, routine shots, etc. But that is all. I just started a new job and things are hard enough as it is but if this is serious I do not have the means to help the little guy. Even to take him to the vet tommorow they will want to do xrays and blood work and I cant afford it right now

So Im hoping that maybe on of the great namepro members might know of a vet in the orlando area that might be able to help me. I would be more then happy to pay the bill as soon as im on my feet but I just cant do it now. As corny as it sounds this little guy means the world to me . Like the kid I never had.

Here is a pic of him incase anyone would like to see my little buddy...

wow, that's a cute dog, I understand how you feel about him. Sorry, I can't help, I wish I could, but Orlando just isn't my area. :(

I'm sorry to hear. Could you work out a plan with banfield to pay monthly fees? Or do they not offer that?

Donnie,

I'm sorry to hear about your buddy, hopefully everything ends up coming out okay for him. :(

I did a little searching and I found you some organizations who help pet owners with the vet bills when they're going through hardships and are unable to cover the bills. I have never used such an organization and don't know anything about which ones are good, but here are a few you can check out.

American Animal Hospital Assocation

Angels 4 Animals

IMOM

The Pet Fund

Hope something works out for you Donnie. :)

All the Best,
Chris

Man, I know how I'd feel if that were my dog.. sorry I can't help either. I'd gladly pay the bill myself if I were flush, unfortunately that's not the case. Good luck to you! Hopefully you can find a vet willing to take payments.

Hey slipondajimmy,

I'm sorry to hear about your mate too :(. I'd feel just the same way as you if it were my dog. I'm sorry I can't help you (I live in Australia), but I wish you all the best in finding a near-by VET. Good on you for adopting too!

Best of luck to you mate!

I don't know of any Orlando vet who would be able to help. Maybe check with a feel animal places to see if they do. Or maybe so if UF or another vet school would use it to teach students about the problem and how to fix it. Good luck! You have a very cute dog!
