When a fox attacks...

So my parents had a party last night and at the end, my father was cleaning up the trash, which was outside. When he was confronted by a fox. The fox I believe wanted the food in the trash and my dad being smart...stands his ground and stamps his feet. The fox instantly jumps at him and bites him in the knee, I hear screaming and he runs onto the deck with the fox behind him. He gets in the house and cleans his wound.
He then gets his gun and goes out, with no luck in finding it. The cops come and DEM was suppose to, but never did. The cop went to go look for it with my dad and the fox lept from under the deck and bit my father in the back of his shorts, I see my dad swinging the fox around in the air and the fox runs away with the cop and my father behind him/her.
After 10 or so minutes we decide to goto the hospital...about time huh :).
As soon as we get out of the driveway we someone has hit a fox and it is in the middle of the road standing there. My dad called the cops and it took them about 15 minutes. During that time the fox regained its "bearings" and started to run away, my dad not wanting to let it get away runs it over, and eventually the cops come and shoot it.

Thought I would share an interesting story :hehe:
Moral: Run away when confronted and don't go out again after the incident (common sense tho, right )...
PS: my dad has to get rabies shots, which is a process that takes about a month.

In my expierences, A fox doesn't attack,Unless they are cornered,The fox would have run off, and come back later for the food, in most cases, Is you father going to have to go through the rabies shots?

He should have thrown the garbage can at it, lol. Basically a hungry fox wants some food, bites your dad, runs away, gets hit by a car, gets RUN OVER, and then gets shot. Sucks for that fox.

Rabies shot..ouch!

I've seen several fox over the years.. usually they are more than happy to run away, rather than confront someone.. better safe than sorry with the Rabies shots.

I occasionally see a fox on the cross-country trail where I run. I just turn around and head back, to avoid confrontations.

I'm a country boy and that's my experience with just about any wild animals around here. Corner just about any wild animal and it's going to do what it has to do.

Alot of foxes around this part of Kentucky and some run away fast while some of the larger ones trot away at a moderate pace while keeping their eye on you.

I would say ouch to the stomach shots. I personally never got my involved with a fox. The only time I ever got close to a wild animal that I really, really, really worried about myself, was a pit bull and coyote(not at the same time though)

Earlier in the spring i had a similar experience - but with a muskrat.
My dog was barking at something - and i thought he had one of the kittens cornered in a bush (dog is on a cable) - so i went outside in my pj's and slipon slippers and kicked at the bush. All of a sudden 'something' flew out of the bush and latched on the the side/bottom of my foot. I SCREAMED like crazy - tripped over some rocks and got inside, bleeding like a stuck hog the whole time. I think it hurt worse than any other injury/pain I've ever had.. and i'm not a sissy! I called my neighbor to come over, by the time he got here, my dog had the muskrat dead and was carrying it around. (my dog is a 25 lb welsh terrier .. wtg Herbie!) My other neighbor was here by then and between them they got it away from the dog and bagged it. I had to go to hospital - it was a gaping 3 inch gash. They didn't stitch it -just taped it. I kept the muskrat for about a week (it was cold weather) but no one from the health dept. ever called or anything. I was told since I 'confronted' the animal, chances are it wasn't rabid. As it turned out, I think they were right ... but I really thought at the time they should have checked. i took Herbie to the Vet the next day for his injuries - he had 2 punctures in his nose.
I do not live near water so have no idea where the heck he came from.
We've had rabid raccoons around in the past. One came after my Dad one time, and Daddy picked up a 2 x 4 and beat it to death.
