Hi guys,I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this in.

Anyways, I want to register a domain name, and I was thinking of giving DomainsAreFree.Com a try.

Does any one have and experiences (good or bad) with domainsarefree.com?

Please reply ASAP!

Thanks,

Globat is legit so I'm thinking DNAF should be okay too. The only problem is how much would it cost to renew or transfer in the future?

I would be wary, especially of transfer and renewal fees. Their FAQs reflect a reluctance to disclose the domain renewal fee, and they do not support transfers in, so one wonders about transfers out. Check out their terms carefully.

Q) How do I transfer an existing domain name to DomainsAreFree?
A) We currently do not offer this service. You can only register and maintain new domain names with us.

^^ Excellent points, DrMax! :tu:

For a second, let's even put aside the mysterious renewal fees ... don't you think it's a bit misleading and unethical to charge "$3.99/per year" at a site named, "Domains Are Free"? (The "free" ones only come with one-year PAID web hosting, I believe).
That would tell me all I needed to know, IMHO.

All the best!

I'd say you're best to avoid this one, unless they become more forward in their explanation and FAQ section.

Unless you are giving a domain free with a purchase, then I would say pass on this one.

You could do one of those "Sign up with one of our sponors and get a domain" type of thing. Like the ipod and plasma screen deals goin on.

Okay, so by your reactions, I take it as a no. So, do any of you know what other registrar I can use, that's cheaper than around $8. Maybe close to $5.

I would aslo like to thank you guys on helping me:).

Thanks,

I remember globat offering them at 3.99 before, but if you want reliability you should go for something more expensive. try tosdomains.net.

They are an enom reseller and they are legit. I regged one with them and have not tried to transfer out yet so as far as transferring out, I am yet to find out.

Tosdomains.net is also an enom reseller and the owners/developers of DramSystem I have had issues transferring domains away from them in the past with domains that I bought, lucky thing they were of no real value and I just let them expire.

What issues did you get transferring them out?

I don't have any deals with such small companies!

You consider globat a small company?

Reason being is because last time I checked DRAMS dumps all the domains in the resellers eNom account and not yours; hence, if a domain is going to get pushed it would have to be DRAMS that physically logs in and does it. Transfers -> seems that if the domain was unlocked it wouldn't have a problem.
