A question about Alexa results

I am currently purchasing a domain name which shows in statbrain.com as having a traffic rank of: 48 and about 11,031,750 visits per day

Now I realise that this is not correct and noticed when you check the domain in Alexa it shows the same results but for a different domain.

Why is that ? Was it used to point to a site ?

Any ideas ?

I doubt the domain would get 50 visitors per month but I want to develop it so the traffic is'nt really an issue for me.
