Whether or not this person thinks "A-OL" is similar to "AOL" is his/her own decision to make.

Presonally, undeveloped and for sale I think you are on thin ice. However, you could develop it into something totally unrelated that makes sense to not indicate bad faith. But, as something else it probably has a value less than reg fee...

There's another NPer who had a similar name of a three letter with a hyphen and the company came after him. He gave up the name. It really ain't work it.

AOL is represented in such cases by James Davis of Arent Fox - they are arguably the best in the field. You do not want to play games with them. If you are lucky they will get it from you through UDRP, otherwise you will be faced with a huge lawsuit you will not soon forget!
Just do a quick search of UDRP cases for domains incorporating aol, icq, or netscape and you will see how aggressive they are with these marks. If things don’t go their way at NAF they will quickly file a complaint at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (Alexandria Division) and get an injunction against you in no time.
My suggestion is to simply cancel the registration. No one is going to pay you anything for it anyways

"Their super-sized checkbook" is open to their attorneys and not to those they deem are infringing on their trademark rights.

AOL will spend $10,000's on legal fees instead of pay $100 for such domain names. They simply have a budget to be spend for protection of their intellectual property rights and have given Arent Fox free reign for such expenditures. Sometimes it is more a matter of spending the legal fees and challenging those approaching their trademark territory than actually getting the domain name for their own use.

My question was posed in all seriousness, and was not an attempt at humor. I guess it would have been better phrased "Did they end up with the names from a judgement since they lost the wipo case?" My thinking is, if their claim was denied by the "internet experts", would they have any standing in a real court of law. Wouldn't the respondent have some grounds (wipo case) to mount a defense against such a claim?
