Last month I sold a 1-word domain to a Nigerian company through one of the marketplaces. Did quite a lot of background checks and they seemed to be clean, although there wasn't much trace of them neither.

These companies are so notorious that I would never-ever use Paypal nor Escrow :D :D

So, I insisted on wire transfer only (the invoice had to be paid in full into my bank account). The company tried to argue that it would b much easier to use Paypal, but I never answered these suggestions. My answer was plain and simple - I will transfer you a domain name after the money comes into my account.

A result - few days later, money was in and the domain got transferred.

After all it was a very pleasant company to deal with.

That's it :) fairy tales do happen :)

have a great day,
Helmuts

p.s. I apologise if you were expecting a horror story here ;)

Nice one to hear. What was the domain name?

I am a Nigerian by blood lol. You just confirmed what I been thinking and even suggested to some of my friend's that we could capitalise on this and sell domains to our locals and companies.

Did they reach out to you or you emailed them?

I would prefer not to discuss the domain name.. can just say that it is a generic 5-letter common English word (not some strange dictionary dinosaur) :)

I sold it through a domain auction marketplace - I got their details as soon as the auction was over.
---

This deal made me think few things.. and one of them is: tx God, I'm not a domainer in Nigeria as only this fact could be deal killer in 99% of cases.

Best wishes from the UK,
Helmuts

p.s. nevertheless - my tactics dealing with domainers from higher risk countries will not change.

Who knows, maybe the prince of Nigeria really wanted my help to get his millions of dollars inheritance.

You need to learn how to address a country you know NOTHING about - @Helmuts Meskonis just described a successful transaction with Nigeria and just like other countries. Now you're here talking trash. If you don't know what to say/do - Just close your mouth.

the deal wasn't so good for me, just to be honest :)

.. eventually I sold it for 10% less than I bought it :/

----

as for the insult from your side... @matrigaldo isn't that far away from truth and articles like these http://www.geektime.com/2014/07/21/...t-12-7b-last-year-falling-for-nigerian-scams/ are not rare at all..

As for myself - I have an established UK classifieds ads website and have seen loads of scam attempts coming from the Nigerian IP addresses (have to add that Cameroon boys are very close with selling puppies in London or other towns).

well, the facts are facts :)

Therefore I posted this thread - just a proof that there are good businesses to deal with in Nigeria as well (as horrible as it might sound for you).

peace :)

Where did i offend Nigeria as country or as people?
Or do you deny there is this famous scam about the Nigerian Prince and his millions of dollars he can't have because of some bad guys and need your help with it?

I think you may have taken his post the wrong way. I actually thought it was pretty funny.

Yes, @Helmuts Meskonis did just describe a successful transaction, but the entire moral of his post was that everyone would typically expect some sort of horror story, yet everything ended up being legit and working out like a "fairy tale".

So he added some humor by referring to the prince, probably the most famous Nigerian in the world, and how maybe all this time while everyone wrote it off as a scam, he was actually legitimately asking for hellp. Just like the moral presented in OPs story!

I admire your patriotism though. I could give 2 sh**s what people have to say about the US

... well, it was a "no reserve" auction and it was my responsibility to sell for the price that the domain had reached when the auction had finished.. didn't really have other options.

Bene... That's way off the mark. Not necessary.

I am not surprised that someone would bring in the Nigerian Prince Fad as much as someone subtly want to make it seem like a joke... Such jokes wouldn't be treated with a kids glove by me on a normal day and you might fly of the tagent for such disposition...

Rubbish!

I don't need to start reeling over gory tales of an image about a man I encountered as a kid. In order not to shift the epicenter of this theme, I will let it all slide.

You are entitled to your opinion.

A joke turns into this really! If you don't like pasta = you hate Italians and you are a racist! Same childish logic.

I am happy you sold your domain.

But i am half nigerian and this thread makes me a bit uncomfortable. The thread title made me a bit sensitive...its like .."uhhh yea dealt succesfully with a nigerian company, we all Thank God for this".

Its all about energy. Any of us would be a bit cautious with dealing with buyers from countries we are not used to but you have to be sensitive as to how you describe it to other people because some people you describe it to will be from that country.

But at least you sold your name so thats cool. Nigeria has money. lets go.
