Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I just came across some articles about a French company that is going to produce a car that runs on compressed air.

A great solution to these damn high gas prices.

Amazing!

4500km on one tank of gas? :gl: That'd be just awesome, eh? I want to get one of these :) .

Thanks for the links,

4500km on one tank of .. air. Count me in!!!! This would even beat the whole water hydrogen principle!

Although it is a nice concept if you couldn't tell from the videos, the car would take a while to get up to speed and in this day and age of highways and interstates, and even city driving, this is not economical. Once they are able to master the acceleration problem this would be a car to look into, although with greater acceleration you will see a decrease in that 4500 KM/T.

Nice concept but because our economy is based on oil, I'd be surprised if we ever see fossil fuel powered vehicles replaced in our lifetime. I honestly love these things.. just don't have the faith they will come to fruition.

That'd be absolutely fantastic! Wonder how long it will take for that to become a reality though for everyone to drive.

Lets hope its soon. Tata Motors, India's top Auto Maker signed an agreement with them to develop and produce this car for the masses. Don't be surprised if it comes out by next year, especially now with the tremendous rise in fuel prices. They have also produced a hybrid version that can run on any kind of fuel plus compressed air

See article: http://in.rediff.com/money/2007/mar/21car.htm

We will allways use fossil fuels, but its high time to get away from a total dependancy on them.

Wow, I already began thinking that everything will stop when the oil ends. Good to know something will replace petrol and gas!

Looking forward for the realization of that concept. I hope I'm still alive by the time it came to reality.

I do not know if we would be alive when new energy technologies are appied, but I know exactly that we'll witness the endtime of oil.

Well, it's not gonna take many decades now and the world of automobiles is going to experience a never-seen-before change. I mean, something has to be done, or are we just going to not drive when a) we run out of oil b) gas turns too expensive? And the latter is getting alarmingly close already...

There is a company in New York working to get newer hybrid models of this car manufactured here and on the road by 2010. Their site is worth checking out. I signed up for their newsletter about one month ago but no news yet:

The air car is competing in the Progressive X Prize $10 million dollar contest for those who create cars that get the equivalent of 100 mile per gallon or better:

I still like the Tesla Roadster electric car ;) :

People are trying hard to change things. Let's hope for the world's sake we succeed........

It seems that a lot of people are still unaware of these exciting new products which are not decades, but only 1 to 2 years away from coming out. This French car could be a massive hit very soon around the world. Tata Motors of India will start mass producing them by next year and you can bet that not only will it be a massive success in India , but also in the poor countries around the world. Don't be surprised to see other major Car Companies negotiating with them to sell this car.

The Tesla Roadster is a real beauty, but its not a family car. I will definately buy an Air Car as soon as it comes out here in Portugal. We pay over $9.00 a gallon here. That ain't funny!

Thanks for the great links C.T.

In 5 years nanotech will solve the world energy crisis... according to Ray Kurzweil

http://news.cnet.com/Kurzweil-Exponential-change-ahead-for-games,-people/2100-1043_3-6231644.html

I believe him, 20 years ago he predicted some of advancement in technology we witness today.

And so change is delayed for the next innovation, etc. etc. etc.

We have the technology to make change now - People argue that the car has bad crash protection and making it up to standard would make it too heavy and inefficient. Yet we can produce materials so strong and so light it would beat a conventional car hands down.

Unless people are prepared to stand up and demand change, refuse to accept that oil is the only sensible options and force governments to implement and back the required technologies, then change isn't going to happen. Oil companies have held back advancements in order to protect and increase their profits and wealth, will this be any different. With all the scientific advancements and technological achievements, why is it that an average car only does 20, 30 or 40 miles to the gallon??

Will this become a reality, or will it end up in the pile of nice ideas that no one would back. Will oil controlled governments put a stop to it by introducing or using regulations that make it impossible for it to comply.

Lets hope not.

btw. will governments get away with taxing Air for an air power car ;)

Spot on Adrian, you hit it on the nail with all you mentioned above. You say oil companies have held back advancements, well you can add Auto makers to the list as well, since it was never in their interests to have these competing technologies spoil their business.

But this time it's diferent because you can rest assured oil prices will never return to below $100 a barrel, unless we pressure governments, who in turn must force Oil and Auto companies and take other measures necessary to stop this reliance on oil suppliers.

Even Nuclear Power should start being brought back as an option. Many are against it, but I believe with new technology available, Nuclear could be a very safe alternative. France for example supplies 50% of its energy through Nuclear.

Using corn to produce fuel is a bad idea!
