If the name you are trying to register is the plural version (Ex. SeattlePlumbers.com), but the singular version is also available, it would make little sense to offer the plural to potential end-users, because they would regularly check and register the singular version instead of buying yours. A possible solution is to register both before attempting to sell it.

When the name you are considering to register is also taken in other cities, that is generally an indication you will find a buyer. For example, if you see SeattlePlumbers is available and Miami, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta + Plumbers are not only taken, but with an operating Website on them, that tells you end-users like those types of names. On the other hand, if most important cities are also available, that generally means it is not an attractive combination.

Here are some of the keywords small local business owners tend to buy in my experience: Plumber, Plumbing, GoldBuyer, Limo, BikeRental, Photography, Photographer, TitleLoan, Pawn, Door, including the plural version of these same keywords. There are many others...

If there are fewer than 10 potential end-users in the specific geographic area indicated on the domain, it might not be a good idea to register it. For example, if when you enter Boston Tires on Google you do not see at least ten good results, that is clearly a bad sign.

Have in mind that end-users are generally ready to spend a few hundred dollars for the .COM even when the .NET and the others are available. That means that attempting to sell a .NET or the others is generally a waste of time. Always go for the .COM. Of course, I am not referring to premium .NET names, but to low value two or three word combinations.
