opinion 5 reasons why NNLL.com, LLNN.com, NNNL.com, & LNNN.com are solid investments.

I’m an active buyer and seller of the NNLL.com, LLNN.com, NNNL.com, LNNN.com segment of the Chinese market. I am going to focus more on NNNL.com and LNNN.com here since I have more research finished on them, but I’m bullish on all of these categories. Here are 5 reasons why:

1. They’re short .coms

They’re easy to type, and they look and feel great. As I started buying them, I started liking them more and more. I was constantly handling them and typing them them into my spreadsheets. I couldn’t believe how great they felt in relation to how much they cost.

2. They’re scarce

Everyone has different opinions as to what is considered premium in these categories. One you often see is no AEIOU40 (I personally like 0 at the end of the number).

Let’s look at how many combinations there are for these defining premium as no AEIOU40.

NNLL.com - 8 x 8 x 20 x 20 = 25,600 combinations
LLNN.com – 20 x 20 x 8 x 8 = 25,600 combinations
NNNL.com – 8 x 8 x 8 x 20 = 10,240 combinations
LNNN.com – 20 x 8 x 8 x 8 = 10,240 combinations

Last time I checked, NNNL.com and LNNN.com were ALL registered except for about 20 low quality ones. I have a link at the end of the thread. These categories are bought out.

3. They’re undervalued

There are relationships between similar classes of domains. @Giuseppe Graziano has talked about the concept as it relates to the Chinese market. Definitely check out his interviews on DomainSherpa and his newsletter.

LLLL.com Chips are roughly selling at 1/30 LLL.com (a direct relationship would be 1/20).
NNNNN.com is more or less 1/10 the price of similar NNNN.com.

So what should the value NNNL.com and LNNN.com be? Their closest relationship is with NNL.com and LNN.com. Here are some recent sales (NameBio):

79h.com 3,138 USD 2016-01-14 Sedo
89p.com 4,300 USD 2016-01-12 Sedo
73j.com 2,300 USD 2016-01-09 Flippa
12c.com 5,555 USD 2015-12-28 Flippa
58r.com 7,300 USD 2015-12-22 NameJet
17f.com 4,947 USD 2015-12-12 Sedo
33y.com 5,700 USD 2015-12-07 Sedo
69h.com 3,400 USD 2015-12-01 Sedo

r62.com 2,172 USD 2016-01-13 Flippa
p81.com 4,000 USD 2016-01-12 Sedo
x36.com 3,799 USD 2015-12-14 4.CN
x67.com 4,999 USD 2015-11-23 Sedo

Applying logic similar to the relationships between LLL.com & LLLL.com and NNNN.com & NNNNN.com, we can estimate what NNNL.com & LNNN.com should be worth. Whether you divide by 8 or 10 or even 15, the data suggests that the value of Chinese premium NNNL.com and LNNN.com should be in the $250 - $500 range.

4. The Chinese buy and use them

Being active on the drop and at auctions, it becomes obvious that the Chinese buy and use these types of domains. I look at the ownership history, who is bidding, and who is winning. And from my portfolio almost all the inquiries I receive are from China.

Additionally, when you look at the sites already developed, it becomes even more evident. There are literally thousands of developed NNLL.com, LLNN.com, NNNL.com, and LNNN.com. The majority of them are Chinese. Here are some examples of high traffic sites:

5. The smart money is on them

There are some prominent domain investors buying these. If you frequent DomainShane.com, you see @Domain Shane talking about these almost daily. He follows the Chinese market like a hawk. People should be paying attention. There are others investors too, some of who have made 100,000s of thousands of dollars investing in the Chinese market already.
-----------
Those are a handful of reasons why I have a positive outlook on NNLL.com, LLNN.com, NNNL.com, and LNNN.com. They are not without risk. They have some of the same risk that affects the overall Chinese market. But the long term, I believe they have an extremely bright future.

Hi,

What about the NNL.net & .info.
Is there any current demand of these 3character domains.

It's interesting that you bring up NNL.net. LLL.net Chips are trading at ~5% of LLL.com Chips. I haven't been following NNL.net, but keeping the same ratio, they should be selling around $200. It looks like they are almost there.

59r.net 170 USD 2015-12-29 DropCatch
80k.net 104 USD 2015-12-02 DropCatch
j55.net 140 USD 2016-01-21 NameJet
m99.net 696 USD 2016-01-11 GoDaddy
z82.net 455 USD 2016-01-04 GoDaddy
g83.net 165 USD 2016-01-04 GoDaddy
t20.net 231 USD 2015-12-28 GoDaddy
t51.net 155 USD 2015-12-24 GoDaddy
w51.net 195 USD 2015-12-23 DropCatch
d29.net 190 USD 2015-12-19 Pheenix
g85.net 170 USD 2015-12-17 NameJet
x66.net 160 USD 2015-12-11 Flippa
f90.net 158 USD 2015-12-01 GoDaddy
b65.net 140 USD 2015-12-01 GoDaddy

I don't see any significant action on NNL.info. They should be around reg fee in my opinion.

While they are undervalued and have a rarity aspect - the Chinese domain market isn't growing fast enough for you to realise a decent return anytime soon on said investment. In fact you run the risk of the N/L trend fading before any decent returns start coming.

Interesting views though - thanks

You run the risk of the trend fading on anything you buy now. This same argument applies to any class of N or L name. In domaining you always run the risk of any segment or trend fading. It happens in keywords and it happens in brands and it can certainly happen in L's and N's. There is a key difference between keywords and L/N names -- in that L/N are entirely language independent and international (especially when you deal in chips).

If you can look at the international domain market and honestly see it fading worldwide from here, with no growth... then that should be your aspect on all L/N, in every extension that's seen interested -- not just this particular set in .com.

I, on the other hand, do think they're terribly undervalued (LLN and NNL are as well) and since I do think it's still a growing international market... they've got more than average room to grow, compared to categories that have received a lot of attention already.

Instead of saying international market you guys should change it to chinese market. LN combination, No one using other than chinese. Infact their is 1000s chinese websites in these format.I own few LLNN, NNLL.com domains.

This is wrong!

In fact, LLN, NNL are preferred worldwide....

Before the Chinese bubble, NNL, LLN, LNL were selling in a good flow.....

@barefooted I haven't really followed LLLN.com, but from what I remember, the ones that have sold are typically comprised of 3 letter words or very well known acronyms + a number. Words like bet, win, pay, edu, etc.

All great points! I'm still a buyer of these domains. 7/8 letter domains and new extensions may not make it, but I think 4 character .coms that are as rare and memorable as the kind you are alluding to, have nowhere to go but up in value! Your post is spot on and the longer the prices stay low, the more smart investors will accumulate digital assets at wholesale prices!

Short LLL, NNN and short extension are more pricy! This goes to all most wanted extension; older-newer. Short NNN has gone 50% up for less than a month. Oh well, the renewal fees for this kind of dn also went up! I'm learning :)

You are going down the wrong road. There are 100's if not 1000's avail in the aftermarket for $12.
There would have to be a very specific need or use for these types of domains. There are just too many of them. Maybe something like 4him.com or 4her.com or even 2two.com would be resellable but buying random combos hoping that there might be a need for it in the future seems like a waste. Sorry to be negative on them. I would stick to l-l-l or n-n-n or even 5-8number .coms at least a NNNNNN.com could be used like a phone number or could be resold like that.

Just because it has no AEIOU40 doesn't really mean that much to me. The whole world is not chinese so calling them premium is a stretch. 420 is a great term with a "4 and 0" in it and is very popular term in the USA. Yes they love "8's" but just having an 8 in the domain doesn't make it valuable to the rest of the world. Just saying... be very selective in what you buy. Don't over-extend in any one niche.

In aftermarket, it initially seems $12 but before 10 minutes of ending the auction, it becomes more than $100...

One evidence is Namebio, check there.

  • The examples you gave with 3 letters and 1 number are not rare at all, but when you flop it with 3 numbers and 1 letter and take out the 4s, vowels, and Vs, you are talking about 10,000 which a ton of those 10,000 are already developed. I think he is heading down the right track, but time will tell. The ones I have seen on the aftermarket have been going between $20-$200. If they are not being back ordered it is because it has a 4 or starts with a 0. As far as the whole world not being Chinese, that is true but there are many more people that are Chinese than any other group. No investment is risk free, but at this moment these are liquid domains, just very low liquid....

I kinda think the two in my signature are handy to the right person if they are selling numeric domains

A couple thoughts.

The wholesale market tends to prefer the letters first, however the reality is that there are substantially more developed NNNL.com than LNNN.com and NNLL.com than LLNN.com.

The large majority of all of these are Chinese sites.

Today I was browsing through LLNN.com. There are literally thousands of these developed. Here are some examples of high traffic LLNN.com sites:

pm25.com
zh28.com
sj63.com
nm18.com
gm99.com
hq51.com
xp85.com
jq22.com
ld12.com

qt86.com
jc35.com
yw11.com

jj20.com
by56.com
ht88.com
zz91.com
jr18.com
jc68.com
nk91.com
cn51.com
sj88.com

I'll be looking through NNLL.com next.

Some would suggest a floor price is about $40, I think the buyers normally find you. Perhaps find the owner of something similar and contact them,
