So after discussing with their abuse/security team, I've learned DreamHost has a cap on new registrations (20) in the first 30 days.

The cap can be increased on request. it is unclear how high the limit can be increased (I'm waiting to hear if it can be brought up to 50). Regardless, this is not a domainer friendly policy. Just something to consider before beginning your relationship with DreamHost.

I have bought ~40 domains from them in the past few weeks - and haven't had any unwanted charges. I've also had to contact their CS 2x, and they were responsive.

They seem fine to me, especially during their $4.99 throwback sale which continues until Mar 31.

However they do have 2 annoying policies:
1- They have a cap on the # of domains (20) you're allowed to purchase in the first 30 days, but I was able to get a one time waiver to bring it up to 50. They stated I will not be allowed to buy any more names beyond 50 until thirty days have elapsed. Never heard of a registrar capping purchases. It borders on the absurd.
2- You do not buy names at registration. It takes ~5-15 minutes to actually acquire the name. This is longer than any of the other registrars I've worked with (and although they claim an industry norm - is not). However, my purchases have all went through so it hasn't mattered. Not sure why they have such a delay where others do not.

Otherwise, I've been generally happy so far.

I had registered around 20 domains and they sent me an email months later that I also had to pay an additional 20% for each name. I was living between the UK and EU back then and received their email when I was in the EU. I don't remember what it was, but it was just a couple extra dollars, some EU or UK tax, not sure..

Good ol DreamHost. Been domaining for years... never seen this.
