4000 page views and zero AdSense income

Today (so far with just half a day), I've received around 4,000 page views on this page of my DomainRookie.com blog. However, I've generated zero Google adsense revenue. Now, I always have known that Google ad revenue is not going to be high on this blog, because the ads are usually regarding domain registration, targeted to people that already know all about name registration. (I know the home page now shows a lot of robotics ads, but that's not the norm).

Now, I also have a developed site called AltEnergyToday.com that has very high producing Adsense ads. So, I know I can make money with Adsense.

So, I'm looking for advice on what I should do with this. I can't just ignore thousands of hits a day. I need to get a PPC program that delivers ads that people will click on DomainRookie.com. Any suggestions? Do I need to resort to porn?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

My best advice is to move your ads around and try different positions/colors/sizes until you see a difference for the better.

Try the 250x250 square like this:

Header

250x250 Content Content Content
250x250 Content Content Content
250x250 Content Content Content
Content Content Content Content
Content Content Content Content
Content Content Content Content

I think i can tell why your getting robo ads :P, you ve got about 10 'robot' related domains in your first article atm ;).

Here are some things I noticed with your website:

1) Everyone ignores 468x60 banner ads at the tops of pages. I think that you should put an Adsense banner like this at the start of your articles/blog entries. And using CSS, float it to the right, do something like this:
Code:
<span style="float: right; padding: 3px;">*ADSENSE CODE*</style>
*ARTICLE/BLOG ENTRIES HERE
If you did something like that, it would show up with an Adsense banner to the right of your article, and the article text would wrap around the banner.

2) The skyscraper Adsense banners on the way right are doing zip for you. I wouldn't have even noticed them if I wouldn't have been searching for your banner placement. You did a great job at blending them in with the background color of the page, but you put them in the wrong spot. Try and somehow get them closer to the articles/blog entries that the people are reading. The very right column of your site is basically just an advertising box, people like me don't even see it because we're used to ignoring them on other sites. Integrate your Adsense banners closer-to, or inside of the articles/blog entries.

3) You might want to check out this page for some clever ideas for Adsense banners. Once you find a good spot on your page to place the banners, your next step is to optimize them so people want to click them. My favorite example of this can be found here - I really like that idea, once people notice the icons aren't clickable, they move their cursor over the text that is clickable (the Adsense ad).

Thanks. Yes, I knew why I was getting robot ads. Those ads change with my articles. But generally, I get domain ads.

Thanks to all for the ideas so far.

Here's something else to ponder. As I mentioned in my original post, this particular page is getting tons and tons of traffic. There are around 80 sites that link to it. Sites like ebaum and I-am-bored. People go to it for the laughs. The audience is not domainers, they are just people who saw the link to the article.

The traffic comes and goes in spurts--sometimes 100 views a day, sometimes 5,000. I'm wondering if there is something specific I can sell/do on this page to really go after the customers it is attracting. I think they are generally interested in humor and naughtiness.

Your links seem to be from CJ, right? No harm in trying a little bit racier content ads from CJ just to see what happens. Or try selling cheap student insurance (ehealth, $20+ a pop). Highlight that it's cheap and folks might just pay attention.
The big thing: experiment til you get it right ;)

Find someone that will pay you a CPM rate.

Is this better? I've at least colored the ads so they stand out. I'll find out in a few days I guess.

It was in the same place, but it was black and white, blending with the page. Same with the sidebar ads.
