Hi,
I try to keep an eye on 3d sales.

In my limited research I found about 30 sales of 3d domains during September.

5 were below 1k
12 were between 1k and 2k
9 were between 2k and 3k
3 were 3k and above.

Hope this helps.

Any idea of the actual domain names of those that were sold?

I get offers (highest $7.5K) all the time on some of my 3D names but its far too early to sell, unless of course a serious offer comes thorugh..

The 3DMovie.com sale in that list didn't happen, I chat to the owner sometimes and he has told me he hasn't sold it. Its worth more than that imo.

Some may be be in the list above, but haven't checked..

I suppose the price for such domain names will depend on the length of domain name and domain name extension used

I think most interesting to watch are the domains purchased in the great 3D domain rush from late last year to earlier this year.

There were two threads here on this forum alone filled with thousands of 3D domains. I'm sure most of you remember the threads fondly.

The overwhelming "naysayer" argument was that the so-called visionaries were actually late to the party and that the good 3D domains were registered years ago.

So here is the list of 3D domain sales (tech relevant only) that were registered during or after the big 3D domain rush.

Code:
$1,000 buy3dlaptop.com
$1,000 buy3dpc.com
$  150 glasses3d.com
$  265 channels3d.com
$  100 3dgamesvideo.com
$   75 3dconsole.co.uk
$1,000 3dfilmworld.com
$  100 3dmarkers.com
£   50 cheap3dlaptops.com
€  250 3d-televisies.be
$  250 3dphones.org
£  250 3dblurayplayers.co.uk
€  170 3d-map.net
£  130 3dnotebooks.net
$  800 buy3d-tv.com
$   70 3dimmobilien.com
€  300 3dfit.co.uk
$    5 playcasino3d.com
$   70 3dcamroulette.com
$    1 3darticle.com
$    5 3dbluraydvd.com
£  270 3dplayers.co.uk
€   60 3d-fernseher.biz
$  400 home3d.info

Note that buy3dlaptop.com ($1,000), buy3dpc.com ($1,000) and buy3d-tv.com ($800) were bought by the same guy. If he didn't buy them, the top three spots become $1,000, $400 and $300.

This is a very disappointing list considering how many were registered during that period.

I have to agree in what you say, if there were 10,000 domains registered @ $10 a throw that is a 100k deficit already. I suspect there were probably alot more registered than 10k though.

I see that (apart from the odd domain) most of the domains sold are product related. Not that there has not been serious offers for the ones such as film, cinema, sport etc. I suspect if you are holding any of the outlandish ones such as 3dmicrowaveoven.info or something lol, then let them drop if the sales and offers so far have been any guide.

Should be interesting to see what happens in the coming months as it seems there has been an explosion of companies wanting there product or film noticed with the 3D tag attached to it. I'm guessing the real winners in the longrun will be the tech/product/industry type domains.

I feel sorry for those guys who spent an absolute fortune on anything 3D.

Well said ddddot and share mac. The biggest problem was people regging anything 3d related which is plain silly. I continuously told people to rather look on the aftermarket for decent product names, those are the ones that will sell later on. There will be a lot of names expiring in the next 18 months, a few of mine included. Good luck all

i am not really interested in selling 3dtv.tv or 3dtvs.tv yet , as stated too early for these names

Actually, if you look at this list of sales, discounting the March sale number (because it was Snapnames dumping a load of garbage)
There seems to be an upward trend.

March 30
April 5
may 11
June 5
July 4
August 10
September 25

I took out the ones which were not really 3D domains ie. mp3downloads etc.

I was surprised at the low price for 3dTouch.

I agree exsedo, I really think that name will be worth a lot in a few years. There will be a lot of 3D touch screens and other "touch" devices (smartphones etc)

I have had an offer higher than at Sedo on my similar name - Touch3D.com

Nice ROI on 3Dwebcam.com @ $2500 although 3DMovie.com was a complete giveaway price @ $2499

Of the 2 i'd rather have had 3Dmovie.com

3dLCDtv.com sold for $375...

Shane Mac, 3DMovie.com is a fake sale, it didnt happen, I know the owner from another forum and he didnt sell it.

once a 3dwebcam becomes common this name has to be worth a lot more .....surely

i think mostly products are the only ones that matter in 3d, a lot of the other stuff may never happen

I have 3DWebCameras.com, I like it but it is quite long, I much prefer 3DWebcam.com or 3DWebcams.com

I ran into this little gem from the guy arguably responsible for the initial 3D domain hype...

http://twitter.com/3dDomainNames
Very Cool Site I found, discussing Future Trends In Domaining.... DestinysWeb.com everything from 3d, augmented reality, holographic..etc..
9:27 AM Aug 29th via web

The site is behind whois guard, but nobody else deals in that very specific combination of domains. He obviously made it himself in a bid to help sell his domains behind fictitious "third party" support.

Is this not one of the lamest things you've ever seen in domaining?

death, taxes and your negative comments in a 3d thread are the things we can rely on in life, but after a while they lose their impact i suggest

yes some nice 3D sales there - it shows some people at least are taking 3D technology seriously.
the 3D experts claim its only the massive bandwidth requirements (currently 50MBPS max) holding-back 3D/holographic streaming via the web, which is where 3D domains will come into their own.
electronista.com/articles/10/08/25/verizon.cisco.talk.about.holographic.tv.future - an interesting 3D article[/URL]

This is a very disappointing list considering how many were registered during that period.

By the same token, if you took all the names registered by NP members in a year, or ten, and compared that number to the total number of domain names sold, in a year, or ten... you could make the same yawner of a point:

Only a small percent of names reg'd will sell.

The dif with 3D names is regs spiked, due to techno-cultural market factors, so the time frame to reach a critical mass market number is far more compact.

While this hype-spike buy-binge appears to have upset some, rest assured this market's buy-sell numbers will curve-out in time.

Yet you can't escape them.

Reality always takes over.

Too many domainers are dreaming about the nice sales they will be making tomorrow, but they don't even bother to study and look at what sells today. Because they think they know it all.
I really think it's harder to predict the future when you are oblivious to the past and present.
