35$ NHL Forum header and icons contest +incentives! ($ increased)

Hi Designers,

This is the second contest related to my NHL forum www.qnhl.com. In the first contest http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=111051, a nice logo was designed by TrueSnake. You can see it on www.qnhl.com. The contest now is for the header and the icons/buttons of the forum. Below are the requirements:

The Header: I need a header using the theme of hockey very well. A good example will be www.hfboards.com, where I can put a banner on the right side too. So the header will use the logo already designed, and it will add things (like a ring or a something related to hockey as a continuous of the logo...). Creative ideas are very welcomed. The header should also use the empty columns in some way, where I am planning to put ads or polls in the future. I am ready to change the background of the main page if your design requires that.

The buttons/icons: I already started to do the icons for "new post" and "no new posts", but I would to extend that to all the icons: "Forum is locked", New posts [ Popular ],No new posts [Popular] New posts [Locked], No new posts [Locked], and the "who is online". Their size is different, you can see them easily if you navigate www.qnhl.com for a bit. I want these logos to be hockey related. Be creative, and make something nice ans clean, and that won't hurt the eyes.
Regarding the buttons, I just want their colors to be adjusted to the ones in the forum: No redesign required. I am talking about the AIM, edit, email, ICQ, IP, msmm, pm, profile, quote, search, www, YIM, newpost, newtopic, postreply, locked buttons. If the designer feels like redesigning them with a hockey touch, I will probably pay 5 or 10$ extra.
The designer should keep in mind that ads and other sections need to be added in the future, so his header and use of column should make it easy to integrate them in the design. Any advice on the choice of the ads or affiliates for my forum is also considered.

-The contest ends on September 21st, (Wednesday) at 5pm EST.

-I have the right not to choose any design if none meets the requirements, but I doubt this will happen!

-I'd pay 35$ US via PayPal to the winner directly after the contest ends i.e. around 6pm, September 22nd.

-The final winner has to give me a .gif or .jpg with an editable vector format (.psp for example).

I am waiting for your design, and I will give you feedback as often as possible.

hello!

I think my post was long and I was asking too many things. I would like to make things simpler:

-I need a nice header for qnhl.com that uses the theme of hockey and matches the logo already there.

-6 icons that correspond to: Forum is locked, New posts [ Popular ],No new posts [Popular] New posts [Locked], No new posts [Locked], and the "who is online". You can base yourself to the "New Posts" and "no new posts" icons I already designed and change the backgroud color or add a lock or whatever.

-Forget about the buttons, I will keep the default ones.

The contest is mainly about the header.

Hope things are simpler now!

Nice header Krishm. My comments are the following:
I like the colors, but I would like to see some "hockey related" light background. In addition, if possible, the header should use the border and fade relatively as we go in the top of the right and left borders.

And I would like to see something more creative. But it's a good starting point.

It is a good idea but I won't use a bigger banner than the one you can see now on qnhl.com. I am also planning to ad one small square affiliate ad on the left column, and I will rotate this ad often.

Is this a private contest? And don't see any entries.
I guess designers should STOP sending the designs privately because there's no fun it, and I can even tought that there's no fair-play on that situation.
I don't think is funny the only posts on the board, being "PM sent . Thank you" Waiting feedback", and then the contest holder give feedback on public.
Unless the contest holder express "This is a private contest, please send you work via PM", the designers should post their work on public.
For instance, on Sitepoint, the rule is: no PM sending work, and there are designers here that are posting there and follow that rule. Why not here follow the the conduct?
And another thing, contest holders should encourage designers to post their work on public, because that's more healthy, in my point of view.
Well, I felt that I should just say that.

You are probably right, but not many designers have submitted their designs via PM. Actually it's the case of only one guy. It's not a general case. The others are going to submit it here. Regarding the rule, it's the responsibility of the forum leaders. But I agree that it's more fun if all the submissions are public. However, it's the designer's choice to submit his/her work publicly or privately.

Nevertheless you should enter the contest and try your chance,

I really like your header, it looks professional. But I have some remarks:
- where is the ad banner going to fit? Are you going to make the header wider and put the banner on the right side on the faded region. The header can be larger than the tables if needed, I will adjust my tables if necessary.

- I like the background, but I would like to see players from more than one team. What do you think American fans will feel when they see only Canucks players there? I want something more diverse, but with the same look and feel.

- The logo should be a bit bigger, and the background a bit lighter.

i'll make those changes soon. as for jut canucks players, my bad, i just use pics of the first players that came to mind and being a canucks fan they were the first. i'll change that and make a bit more room for the ads.

Hi Dew,

I like the changements, you're going in the right direction. I have some remarks:

1) I would like to see the logo fully (not cut from below), so you should make the header width (I mean the distance between the 2 red lines) a bit bigger.

2)The goalie on the background...I don't like it a lot...We already have a goalie in the logo, so a forward player (Crosby most preferably) will be a much better idea. And by doing the changement in 1), we will be able to see more of the player covered by the google ad banner.
