Hello,

Navigation Design Contest

Design Brief:

I'm looking for a navigation that is 'eye candy' and nice to look at. I would like it to be glossy/shiny/glass-like and have a somewhat 3D-ish/non-tacky embossed effect to it, but not too over the top.

I've attached an image of the windows media button, which is an example of one that I like.

Style/Shape: I would like the buttons to be 'folder'-like styles, so they are rounded rectangles. A bit like www.play.com, www.fasthosts.co.uk (but rounded), www.amazon.com etc, but of course not copied.

Colours: Corporate Blues/Silver

Prize: $20 (PayPal)

End of Contest: 19/08/2005 (gives time for revisions etc)

Please Note: I'm just looking for images, no code or anything.

At the moment I'm not too bothered about seeing the whole navigation, perhaps you could just give me an example of a button and its rollover (you may want to show two buttons next to each other to show perhaps a shadows effect you might be using).

Sorry, the colours and style is not what i'm looking for, please follow the design brief.

Mike Wiseman:

Thats better, but i still think it could be improved, i cannot see a glossy/glass effect.

Apothix:

I like the middle colours the best, please try it with buttons next to each other for me to see what it looks like.

Jiblob:

Its very important to watermark your entries but i can hardley see the detail of your entry, perhaps lower the tone of the big grey watermark.

Virgil:

I like the 'orb'-like effect, could you remove the writing please (standard, selected), unless its for watermark purposes.

Depthskins.com:

Good, but a bit too dark, play around with the brightness of it.

Can you put them on a white or transparent background please. Its not exactly what i was looking for, perhaps you can try to maintain a metallic like effect like you managed in the other ones, but with the lighter tone.

Sorry, too plain, i can't really see any 'effect' there. Good try though.

Apothix:

They look pretty cool, a good effect there. Could you try them so they are sort of on that colour header you used (like a navigation) like www.fasthosts.co.uk and also could you try them on a plain header with the colour: #E2E4E9.

Jiblob:

Not bad, I don't really see much of a glass-like effect there, perhaps you can play around with it.

Sorry to be fussy, but can they be on the bottom of the banner, don't worry; you wont be doing a banner, its just i wanted to see what they looked like.

My favourite is the 4th one across (from the left), could you try it but with them next to each other like www.play.com.

That looks good, but the shadow affect is too strong and makes it loose the glass-like shine, please modify it.

Edit: Don't worry about having them 'stuck together', just use your original design, but with those buttons instead of all the different ones, but i would appreciate it if you could try it without a shadow and stuck together.

I will choose the winner tonight (its AM so you have plenty of time to make revisions etc).

No thanks, please just have it so that that button style what i liked is in the same layout as http://www.namepros.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3350 (spaced out, not stuck next to each other) as i think that effect works better.
