Navigation Design Contest

Design Brief:

I'm looking for a navigation that is 'eye candy' and nice to look at. I would like it to be glossy/shiny/glass-like and have a somewhat 3D-ish/non-tacky embossed effect to it, but not too over the top.

I've attached an image of the windows media button, which is an example of one that I like.

Style/Shape: I would like the buttons to be 'folder'-like styles, so they are rounded rectangles. A bit like www.play.com, www.fasthosts.co.uk (but rounded), www.amazon.com etc, but of course not copied.

Colours: Corporate Blues/Silver

Prize: $20 (PayPal)

End of Contest: 19/08/2005 (gives time for revisions etc)

Please Note: I'm just looking for images, no code or anything.

At the moment I'm not too bothered about seeing the whole navigation, perhaps you could just give me an example of a button and its rollover (you may want to show two buttons next to each other to show perhaps a shadows effect you might be using).

If i'm going to be honest, its a too plain for what I want. I'm looking for a shiny, glossy, glass effect.

The size is okay, but its too wide, try and make it the same sort of width as www.fasthosts.co.uk, but a bit wider.

Good try though.

I like the 'style' but i'm not too sure on the design, again its a too plain (using just a linear white and blue/grey effect). Also, can you make the shapes rounded.

Thanks for the entries, I wasn't very clear on the colour. Its hard to explain the colour I would most like, but its basically similar to the windows media player buttons colour and www.play.com buttons, sort of a dull blue/a mix between blue and light grey.

Its improved, but its still more embossed than glass like. I like the light colours and the sides (the sort of shadow).

Dew:

Thats the sort of effect i'm looking for, perhaps you could add a bit more detail to it (like subtle shadowing at the side). Maybe you could make the rollover effect similar to the windows media rollover (gets lighter, doesn't change colour). Also the glass seems to be too 'sharp', as in its not a subtle effect.

Sorry, thats not what I'm looking for; its too plain and the shadow/black border is too strong.

I think the white on the top is a little much, ill lower the opacity and post an edited version asap.

Here's my entry:

The different color of fonts is to show how it contrasts against the bg so the choice is yours.

There's 2 of the same design but different color - one aqua and the other blue.
