Hello! :hi:

I am featuring a $50 site design contest for a webmaster site that I plan on releasing using a wicked nice design created by the winner of this contest. Before I explain stating how I want it to look, I'd like you to review my terms and conditions before reading on.

Terms and Conditions:
  1. The design entry that you submit must be your work and unique and exclusive work.
  2. If you are chosen as the contest winner, I receive FULL rights to the design - unique and exclusive rights - and you can NEVER sell or display it again.
  3. The design must incorporate/include my unique custom logo for my website, located here: http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/1531/webmasterednet65wh.png
  4. The logo I just linked to is copyrighted to me...YOU MAY NOT USE IT OR DISTRIBUTE IT for any purpose besides this contest.

Alright, now that you have read my terms and conditions, it's time to get started with the details. :)

I want the design's color scheme to reflect the colors of my logo. I greatly like having both a verticle and horizontal navigation menu, and I am particularly fond of hover effects being included into the design over the navigation menu(s).

This design is going to be for a webmaster resource website, so the site will be featuring news, articles, and recent forum posts. I am looking for something really attractive and professional following my logo's color scheme. I hate small fonts for content so please do not put size 8pt or 9pt fonts into the design at all unless it's like copyright text.

I'm going to try to show you examples of sites that I like - I do not want duplicates of the sites I show you or anything close. Usually I just show sites to show different colors and effects that you can incorporate into the design. I like MyBBoard.com and Webmaster-Talk.com's colors for example. I'm not really good at explaining things so just try your best.

If you have any questions, just ask. Good luck!

Optional Cash To The Contest WINNER:
  • I will pay $25 extra to the contest winner if they decide to create me a forum skin that will match the design he/she created.
  • I will pay $25 extra to the contest winner to slice and code the design into valid XHTML 1.0.

Hey nikkithebest. I like your layout, but it looks really like something that isn't unique...I really am aiming for a unique feel, you know what I mean?

To everyone entering this contest: I'm really looking for something original and unique, and not taking any site's template or template concept. I am looking for something that looks modern, like how web 2.0 is and such...that kind of thing. :)

I like the design of SitePoint.

I hope that helps you with your entries!

Good luck to you all! :)

Hey DVBT, I am not feeling your layout at all. I specifically said in my post that I didn't want small fonts, plus I don't like how this is laid out.

Unfortunately no, I don't have a transparent version of the logo.

the font is not size 9 or below. Its size 10 :)

Anyway will come up with a new concept soon.

@nikki, is that template unique???

Also to everyone, I'd really like something like how SitePoint's top navigation is and the hover effects and all that jawn. :) Of course, using my color scheme.

Alright, here it is.
- preview -
Note that the hover states in the left sidebar and the vertical navigation are demonstrated in the preview.
Coded valid XHTML and CSS. I can make a forum skin of it, too, but that depends for which forum system it has to be. First I'll have to see if this one wins, of course.
I can code another design as well even if my own doesn't win. :)

Please let me know what you think.

I think the designs coming in so far are way too corporate...this isn't a business website, it's a webmaster article and forum website, similar to v7n. I'm looking for content to be laid out similar to v7n and SitePoint, and am really looking for the web 2.0 look of SitePoint that matches my logo's color scheme.

I know this is your contest, but I'd like to say some things about this first before doing a redesign.
First of all, your logo itself is pretty corporate, so if you want a matching website layout it needs to be the same style.
Secondly, web 2.0 is nothing 'design specific' it's just a name given to a certain evolution in the use of the internet in recent years. Even if there is such a thing as 'the web 2.0 design' it sure is not the layout of Sitepoint.
So maybe you should give us a more detailed description of what you have in mind, or you should readjust your expectations.
I am just saying this because designing a layout is a time intensive process. If your expectations drastically change (or appear to be different than what the designer understood from your initial post), then many designers will feel reluctant to go through the process all over again.
