I've never heard of the bird before, but I have heard of it as a way to describe someone in a negative way. It might be used kind of affectionately sometimes, sort of like "Goofball", but overall I can't see anyone using it for the sake of it being an animal's name, like I wouldn't expect to see "MailCoot" the same way you'd see MailChimp.

I live in St Albans (UK and I see these birds all the time in the Park :xf.smile: There might some traction in the UK with this name....
