This is a touching story. I have a child that is 9 and it breaks my heart thinking about this little boy is dying with cancer. The only wish he has is to receive get well soon cards. I am designing a site for him and plan to have it up in the middle of the week. Please visit the site for updates on Josh.

Last week a Danville, Kentucky newspaper reported a story about two 11 yr. old boys and their goal—Josh Adkins and best friend Jason Steberl are on a mission!

Josh has terminal cancer and is currently undergoing chemo therapy, inspired by a movie, Josh’s friend Jason is collecting get well cards for Josh. So far the kids have gotten a little more than 2000 but these kids want their names listed in the world book for breaking the record of receiving the most get well cards in history!

I wanted more background on this, so I called the newspaper for more information and I ended up getting Kathy Steberl’s work phone number. I spoke with Jason’s mother, Kathy Steberl. She confirmed the wish and now it’s time for people to help.

A website has been donated by two South Carolinian’s that want to see Jason and Josh succeed, the address is www.JoshAdkinsWish.com and will be functional by the 10th of February for those that want more information about this team.

Kathy is talking to Jason and Josh to see how they want their website to look and as soon as they’ve decided, their website will be up. Kathy said today that the boys will be elated with a website of their own. Please help make the wishes of these two best friends come true and send a get well card today to:

Josh Adkins

Funny I couldn't find anything on the Net about this.. I tried Googling both boy's names, etc... you'd think the mainstream news would have picked this up as well. Not to mention the Danville, Ky newspapers are represented on the Net as well.

Hopefully this is not another hoax like this... and I'm not saying it is.

Best wishes to Josh and Jason in their quest!

Letters for Josh: Movie inspires Lincoln boy to help sick friend

By STEPHANIE SCHELL
[email protected]

STANFORD - While many movies are inspired by true life events, this true life event was inspired by a movie.

Josh Adkins, an 11-year-old fifth-grader of Stanford Elementary School, is having his second bout with cancer and is currently being treated with high doses of chemotherapy. His classmate, Jaden Steberl, 11, wants to help.

The movie is "Magic of the Cards," about an 8-year-old boy with cancer, who breaks a world record by receiving 2 million get-well cards. Jaden is setting the bar high by asking anyone to send a get-well letter for his friend.

Jaden isn't looking to help Josh just set a new world record, although that is his personal goal, he wants Josh to know he isn't alone in his battle against cancer. Jaden said he would like to give Josh the letters after beating the world record.

"Josh is my friend," Jaden said. "He couldn't do the things he likes to do, so ... I want the letters to make him feel better."

The mission has just gotten under way, said Jaden's mother, Kathy Steberl. Since Jan. 19, about 40 get-well letters have been received on Josh's behalf. A class of pre-schoolers at Stanford Elementary individually told their teacher what they wanted to say to Josh in a letter, Kathy Steberl said.

Josh was diagnosed with cancer a second time about a month ago. It was three years ago when he was first diagnosed, Kathy Steberl said. Jaden and Josh have been friends since kindergarten.

"Josh is a real outgoing little boy," Kathy Steberl said.

Kathy Steberl said no one is urged to send money, just a letter so Josh knows he's on people's minds. She said just sending letters is enough to brighten Josh's day. Kathy Steberl said Josh will go back for another chemotherapy session Monday, so she encourages people to write as soon as possible.

Jaden said he wants teachers to tell their students, preachers to tell their congregations, and factory workers to tell their co-workers.

"I want everybody to spread the news."

IF YOU WANT TO HELP:

Send letters and cards for Josh Adkins to: 101 Rebecca Lane, Stanford, KY 40484.

Will see what I can do about sending a card when I can get out to the Post. I do hope though that the kid knows what he's getting himself into. The last kid that tried this, Craig Shergold (I think was his name), fortunately lived through his fight with cancer, but in doing so, could never get the cards to stop as his story perpetuated for years over the net, and probably still does in some circles. Even at 21, he was still the kid in the eyes of the population. The good news is just the effort will make him a staple in the annals of internet history no matter what happens, though I really hope he recovers.

Well here's an update...

I have done some deeper research and found out that due to the following project that Sunken was talking about, the book of world records no longer has this as a record.

I searched google for a long time and found one thing on this and that was what was posted by brewmonkey. My friend and I googled the address and found the phone number and called them. I offered to make them a site and they gladly accepted. Of course it's not up yet.

My heart goes out to this little boy. But I need some opinions.. Do you think I should tell the little boy's family that there is no record anymore? Because they want that put on the site and I can't put that on there because it's not true. I need some opinions please.
