$100 laptop to me made available to public!

Just read this a minute ago while looking up the iphone, thought it might make an interesting topic :P

The backers of the One Laptop Per Child project plan to release the machine on general sale next year.

But customers will have to buy two laptops at once - with the second going to the developing world.

Five million of the laptops will be delivered to developing nations this summer, in one of the most ambitious educational exercises ever undertaken.

Michalis Bletsas, chief connectivity officer for the project, said they were working with eBay to sell the machine.

At $200 (having to buy 2 as quoted) and one of them going to the developing world i can see myself buying one to be honest.

Might not exactly be normal computing but it might be a bit of a laugh

I also think it was a good move forcing the purchase of 2. I could see them being snapped up quickly if they were made fully available for $10.

I think the $100 laptop is a great idea, would be interesting to play with for a while :P

I believe I read somewhere that the $100 laptop won't actually cost $100, that's just the target cost. I think they said it will be $150 to developing countries and £300 each.

I don't remember the source though unfortunately. I'd love one of them personally!

The BBC site says the initial cost shall be $150 - However the aim is to decrease this to $100 in while

that's a good plan, it's still only $200 for a laptop, which is a nice deal, and you get the joy of sharing it with some child.
