160 killed in Plane Crash

The 152 passengers were from the French Caribbean island of Martinique - the eight crew members were Colombian, West Caribbean Airways said.

The MD-82 plane was travelling from Panama to Martinique.

Air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane soon after the pilot reported engine problems and requested permission for an emergency landing.

Venezuelan Interior Minister Jesse Chacon said the pilot had asked for authorisation to enter Venezuelan air space and land at Maracaibo airport because of problems with one of the engines.

I've been flying since I was a little kid, all over europe, between the US and Europe back and forth maaaaany times. Right now though I'm starting to reconsider my future projects that require a lot of travelling by plane, this is getting scary Even if BA and SAS are the safest airlines around with the lowest crash rates of all airline companies - when planes start crashing on a regular basis it does make you wonder.

It is getting quite scary. Crashes in Toronto, Italy, Greece, and now this one. That's 4 in about 12 days .
