Overview
Im in the process of programming a website thats aimed at webmasters, the idea of the site is a simple one and one thats been done many times before... its going to be a website for reviewing other websites & getting reviews of your own.

So you as a webmaster goto my site... add your entry and other members of the site will review the site and generally ask for you to return the favour.

Required
2 fully designed and sliced HTML pages. A main index page and a subpage.

There should be room enough on the main index page for some latest news, a shout box (approx 210x290px) as well as 3 lists containing approx 5 items each (eg 5 newest added sites, 5 latest forum posts and 5 highest rated) & finally a place for a 'featured site' to appear on the main page also... this must be larger enough for a small screenshot (approx 190x180) aswell as the site name and description.

I would like the overall 'size' of the design to be 780pixels wide and centered with the corners rounded as opposed to sharp... a navi bar column on the left taking up approx from 150px upto 185px of the 780px used in total. The header should have enough room for a standard web banner (468x60) which will be preferably aligned to the right so the left can be used for a logo.

In terms of colour scheme, I dont just want the usual different shade of blue look. Personally I like the colour scheme of this site (sitepoint) its got the blue but also jazzed up by shades and variations of orange - which dont look out of place. But that doesnt mean it *has* to be like this... please use your artistic freedom to find a scheme that you feel works well.

The overall look im trying to achieve is one that isnt aimed too much at any specific group of people as this is a community aimed site and so will have to appeal to the masses

- Finally if you've got any questions then please let me know.
(Payment will be via PayPal once.)

hm namepros is being weird.
do you have a contest end date?

Not really no - its pretty much open ended until theres a design that meets the required needs. However I would hope that it will be over within 7 days.

work in progress...

Hey! Here is my design so far:

It isn't finished yet (in fact...it is in a very early stage...many things still need fixed but this just the basic layout), and I haven't made the other page yet. I just wanted to get some input. I can slice it and put it in html format for you to preview if you like (when it is finished). I hope you like it. Tell me how I can improve it and I will do what I can. I basically just wanted to know if this is setup right, everything is where is supposed to be etc.

I do like the idea you have their Jonathan however, it does have a bulky feel to it - also I dont really like the font youre using.

I do like the positioning of everything though!

Hey boomers, I saw this same thread in two other forums. Are you going to pick a winner?

Rules: If you run a design contest here, then there must always be a winner from within NamePros.

The whole point of a competition is to have a winner... so to answer your question I will indeed be picking a winner.

Yes but the rules say if you hold a contest at Namepros then there MUST be a winner from namepros.

So, you will 100% pick a winner from Namepros... aka there will be a winner of the contest at Namepros, correct? If your planning to pick the best of the 3 remote contests, this will not do. The winner (or at least someone picked to be paid) needs to be in this thread, or you cannot host the contest here.

If you 100% plan to pick a winner at Namepros, then I'm in.

GHOwner - There will 100% be a winner from NamePro's unless there are no entries to a good standard. I will not use a design that is not good and I will no pay for a design that I will not use... for example, if you ran a contest for a design and only 1 person entered and their entry was a blank HTML page with merely a few tables on it - it would not make sence to call this entry the winner.

Another example is you would not buy a lottery ticket for $10 if the biggest prize was only $1 - its the same for me in this scenerio. The site I am coding is a place where people can review eachothers sites (including the design) so I dont want my site looking rubbish as that would be somewhat ironic.

So to clarify... there will DEFINATELY be 1 single winner of this at NAMEPROS who will recieve the $100 for only 2 designed and sliced HTML pages PROVIDED their is AT LEAST ONE entry that is good enough for me to use.

-I truly do hope this clarifies the situation and we can get on with seeing some great designs.

thanks for the input

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. I have been busy the last two days and haven't been able to work on it. Now that I know the changes you want made, I will get to work on making the design fit your ideas. I will change the font, and try to make the whole thing look slimmer/thinner. I should have an update soon!

Here is an update on the page:

I slimmed it down some, creating more room and an overall better look, and changed the font to one that suited the curved theme better. I also changed the bar at the top. I didn't really like the way it looked before, but I can change it back. Also, do you like the colors? And, do you want curved edges on everything or just on the outline? Finally, do you have a logo that I could put in it and maybe use to match the site with?

by the way, I decided go try it glossy, and this is what I got (click to see larger version):

I just thought I would try it out.

Jonathon - I do like this, you have definately got each of the sections that Im wanting.
How easy would it be for you to use the same idea but to test out different colour schemes? At the moment Im thinking its appearing too dark. Also I definately prefer the glossy look aswell. - All in all this is good so far... :)

J4m!3 - Looking forward to seeing your entry :)

- Also take a look at the

Jonathan - maybe change the dark background to a lighter grey? or a light pastel blue? Im just getting a feeling that it feels too dark. But please keep the gloss ;)

J4m!3 - I do like this as a start, but the top lists on the left under the navi bar seem almost tucked out of the way. Perhaps make them more noticable?

kasted - This is my favourite so far... I dont know how to suggest to improve it. At the moment youre winning.

Dylan - A great entry, love the browse cat's on the left. The top lists at the top in the middle, I feel again despite their positioning they dont stand out too much.

- There **WILL** be a winner at NamePro's so someone here will recieve the $100.
