I'd guess the only one anyone here would have any direct dealings with may be .xxx, or the telname version of .tel which I don't think will be approved. I don't think the rest will be open for general registration and will be held closely to the sponsor like .museum and .coop are now.

I will also go out on a limb and predict 6 of the 10 will eventually be approved.

Well, if all of your assumptions are correct, then I guess it doesn't matter that I don't like any of them.

I've always thought it would be funny to have .www but since that's way too confusing maybe .data or something else generic. I like .info, though, the websites I've seen built around .info are rather respectable. I hope this trend holds up...

.com seems like the all-time winner for the time being, though. I have a few resources that are .info and .org and people often ask "so it's xyzdomain.com?" and I have to correct the TLD over and over. :)

I think any name will look cool as www.thing.xxx - but why isn't .mobi .mobile? .tel is much better than .mobi IMHO

I hope that they will be the same price as .com .net .org or cheaper maybe :D

Some people have even recently reported problems to ICANN with 4+ letter tld's like .info, .coop and .aero. Obviously those will be worked out quickly now that it's mainstream, but going to 6 letters could mean more issues in the future. I wonder how .museum is doing with this? Also, mobile devices have small keyboards and .mobile is two extra characters to type.

I don't care much for .mobi either, but it does look better than .mob since that looks like a "gang".

Right, and that's the problem with adding new TLDs, no matter what they are... the majority of people still associate URLs with .com at the end. I don't know how to change that, except to just wait for people to find out about other extensions...

That reminds me.... I've seen reports from a site called news.com that actually uses the domain news.com.com. If you type in news.com it goes to news.com.com. What's with that?

It's just CNET Networks, Inc. that has bought the domains com.com and news.com. There are no limitations to what kind of words you can use under .com, as far as I know.

I think .mail, .xxx, .tel and .asia will be aproved. I would like to see .asia but none of the rest...

I read today that a .mail address will cost something like $1000 to register. Apparently similar to .kids.us, they will do a very thorough check of you background to see you've never been a spammer and will police it to see that you don't become one using the .mail protocol.

Only the very large companies will be able to afford this. so much for using it on your personal domains.

Really? That's really stupid, I think. Yes, they should be more expensive, maybe $100 per year, but not $1000...

Noticed that .MOBI-Mobi JV, is being listed as a working title. Assuming that is for ext .MOBI and not for the company name Mobi JV, right?

I like .tel, also, but it would limit the definition if used in place of the proposed .mobi, which has a broader connotation. Still, it might behoove a couple of the new tld hopefuls to go w/ the shortest abbrev possible to enhance general acceptence and usage.

Wheras .asia and .mail would probably be weakened w/ abbrevs such as .as, .ia,/ .ml, or .eml (<-not bad though), I think .trav .trv, .trvl (or even .go), would be better than .travel and .mbl, (maybe .wi, xwi, ) would be better than .mobi.

However w/o the $$'s or inclination to apply for a new tld, myself, this is just the HO of a grandstander.

A very clever move by CNET, if you ask me!
