Depends on the tld. Dotster allows 2 letter registration for .vc and .la (only tlds I've tried).

I was happy to pick up 'loans' and 'insurance' in a new (well, newly available to others country) extension last year. Now if only I can get .MN to be remarketed as the state vs Mongolia I'll be all set
