Itried to tansfer a domain from name.com to 1&1 but I forgot it had privacy and I got this email from 1&1 below. I have now disabled privacy at Name.com. What should I do now?:

You have ordered a change of provider for the domain

"mydomain.com"

In order for this to be carried out, we require the explicit agreement of
the domain owner or the domain's administrative contact (Admin-C).

For the Admin-C or domain owner to provide agreement via an online
process, we have sent the appropriate form via email to the following
email address:
[email protected].

Please could you also get in contact with this person and provide
information about this procedure.

As soon as we receive the consent to change provider, we will start the
process to change from the current provider.

We will provide you with details by email on the progress of this action
and the next steps.

Please contact us if you require any further information.

Sincerely,

Your 1&1 Team

I would contact them to see what they say. Tell them you've removed the privacy.

As the email says. "Please contact us if you require any further information."

My question is why transfer to 1&1? 1&1 is the worst. Stay with name.com even it that means a few more dollars! 1and1.com is the slowest site I have ever used. I've been transferring out of 1and1.com and don't look back.

Maybe you should reconsider your decision to transfer to 1&1...

I just transferred some infoโ€™s to them as I did not want to pay $10+ at other places when I can transfer them there for $1. I had issues with them many years ago but I asked here on the forum and members assured me they are much better these days and if I want to transfer out later it won't be an issue. So this is not the case?

Anyway I would still like to know what I should do with this transfer?

I haven't had any issues transferring out with them. I just can't stand their slow site and they have no bulk actions. I respect your reasoning for transferring, that's why I have domains on there in the first place: their low fees. As for what you should do, I suggest you call or email them for more information.

Actually there have been a lot more complaints about them lately than years ago. You won't find too many veteran domainers that will recommend them due to one problem or another.

Another thing to consider is that if you are wanting to sell names that are at 1&1, a lot of people won't be interested in dealing with them because of their well deserved bad reputation. Search Google with the term "1&1 domain + horror, scam, steal, ANY OTHER NEGATIVE THING" and see what you find. It's an eye opener.

Anyway I would still like to know what I should do with this transfer?
If you are dead set on using them then you can re-initiate the transfer after you have turned off the privacy and made sure the domain is unlocked. Better yet, since the transfer didn't go through, transfer the name/s to a different registrar with a better rep. ;)

If you do successfully transfer to 1&1 be prepared to want to do this to your pc when dealing with them: ;)

ha yeah i can understand all that. I know how frustrating some Internet companies can be. Anyway I'm really only just a set and forget type of domainer and I only will set my name servers and the next time I will use them will be in 1 year to transfer out. That is why I was mainly concerned with transfering out later.

So if I want to go ahead how can I retstart the transfer with them, do I email 1&1?

Well, transferring out is one of the big problems with 1&1. It doesn't always work, work well, or at all. Their renewals will usually kill you, $15 for a .info which you might have no other choice but to pay. That's why a lot of people won't buy a domain that's at 1&1 from a seller.

However, if you still want to transfer to them then you should just get a hold of their support (Phone, chat, email, etc.) and tell them that you removed the privacy and ask them to restart the transfer. It should be able to be done rather quickly.

Good Luck. :)

thanks ulterios, I did send them an email yesterday like you described and they processed it and it's now in transfer.

As for transfering out later. Yes I had some annoying issues when transfering out with them many years ago but I was told it is better these days but I will make sure I start the transfer well ahead of the expiry date to give it plenty of time if there are issues. I might even try transfering out after a couple of months with one domain just to test it. I will report back here on how it goes...

You are most welcome my friend, I hope it goes smoothly from here out for you! :)

Yeah, i'd go for getting things done earlier than normal when the time comes, just in case. When that time comes, hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones. Who knows, someone from 1&1 might be seeing all their negative PR they're getting and they might make some nice improvements. It'll sure be nice for them to get some good PR to help growth.

Take care and good luck.

Today I updated the name servers which I have detailed here. I will be reviewing thier service and how it goes with updating the name servers which I just done for 2 domains.

Updating nameservers isn't too bad but when you have a bunch of domains it's very very very time consuming!!
