    Pardon if this was previously discussed, but Verisign had to get the US govt to sign off potentially raising .com prices (w icann approval) by 7% per year: https://domainnamewire.com/2018/11/01/breaking-u-s-gov-grants-verisign-com-price-hikes/. So I guess there was at least some oversight here...
