The topic says it all.

This is my first case, so I’m unsure what to do. The buyer is located in the U.S. - are there any debt collectors taking on unpaid Sedo domain purchases?

Thanks,
Brandon

Did you lose the domain?

Assuming you didn't lose the domain, that's just the way it works. What did you expect them to do? the buyer will likely get their account closed, then immediately open a new one. This happens and if you are going to be in domaining for any length of time, it will happen again. All you really lost was some time. There is no debt collection service as it isn't a debt. Its breech of contract and you have no remedies.

I didn't lose the domain but it was off the market for like 3 weeks plus additional work and time for me -_-

Thanks for the info. I knew this would happen sooner or later but now that it did happen, I'm just exploring my options.

If it's breach of contract and not a dept collection issue, I'll take it as part of the business and just move on.

Oh and did I say Sedo does nothing? They do pursue their commission and leave me hanging in the air.

Yes Sedo wash their hands of it. But I think if buyer does not pay by their deadline (a week?) you can cancel if you want to free up the name.

They really should not let people click buy without making a charge on their card, say 25% of sale, minimum $1000 or full sale price if less.

Yes it happens, had this with a 5 figure domain and buyer claimed it was a "mistake". The price was a clear fixed price, they just changed their mind.

100% agreed.

Sedo doesn't care, sometimes I would log in, and see names I sometimes owned were deleted from my account, and added to other people's accounts.

I would essentially just BIN that domain, and since I own it no way the seller could transfer it, sedo would just cancel the transfer, and not suspend that account.

They need customers to make money, but they also need your domains, unless you delete them, and move to direct sales landers this will continue to happen.

It has been happening for the past decade nothing new, only thing is sedo lost alot of good names, and now with the sale of MWD 70,000 names, I am guessing godaddy deletes those names out of sedo also.

Let's wait for Uniregistry Market. Hopefully they will show what Sedo lacks.

I had a similar situation. I sold absolutbanking.com for 300 € to swedish investor. But sedo said that something was wrong and i have to wait. and nothing has been solved.

If it's at GD you can list as a Godaddy Premium (automatically transfers to buyer's account, commission 20%) and if it is at Namesilo you can list it on Namesilo's market and set up a lander page there (commission 7.5%).

I also bought a domain on Sedo and got told the listing was by a previous owner - my money was refunded but everything I could see said the domain listing was genuine, then the domain stayed listed but at ten times the price. WTF.

Is naming allowed? Maybe we should have a forum category for listing buyers who did not pay. The buyer can change his Sedo handle but he can't change his real name and address.

I understand your frustration. I recently have sold 4 premium domains sales through SEDO for about 15k. Thus far 1 domain transfer is paid and transferred(Great buyer with quick payment), 1 no pay(even though buyer got 1st offer price), 1 SEDO cancellation(due to buyer security concerns), and 1 pending payment after 3 notices to pay. Disappointing after spending so much to get my domains noticed by featuring them. Definitely helps them sell; however if buyers are not accountable it doesn't matter.

Sedo definitely needs to fix this!

I agree and like the idea that it debits a minimum of 15-25% of price up from card at time of purchase. If buyer backs out the amount would be split between seller and SEDO. This would minimize the number of people backing out due to already having a monetary commitment.
What is lacking now is the monetary commitment at time of purchase. Seems like a simple solution. The sites could even make money by making money providing connections with credit card companies. In addition, sites would save a significant amount by reducing the money spend with trying to contact and collect on all these people backing out etc.

Passed the suggestion on to the General Manager of SEDO USA on facebook messenger. I doubt he will even see it, but at least I tried. It isn't easy to suggestions to high management of a big Corporation.

I find that I never have problems with GoDaddy Premium listing... Yes they take 20% but I just factor that into sale price and I prefer to pay a little more with fees for the ease of transaction and payment...

It can always be a bit of hit and miss on Sedo but that is the world of domaining in general...

I wish you well and hope you continue to make more sales :)

Especially Sedo....very unresponsive to any communications that don't make them money IMO>

I am trying to sell quite a few premium domains with .agency, .center, direct, .directory, .domain, and .life extensions. Unfortunately I can not sell them with Godaddy due to system programming issues(seems odd since I was able to buy them through Godaddy). I haven't checked to see if I can list them as a Godaddy Premium listing. I will call to check.
