A while back, someone posted in this thread (perhaps alcy) that .one was a 'sleeper' TLD, meaning its popularity will not be sudden, but more of a slow creep. I tend to agree with this analysis, and we have seen evidence of it over the years, as more and more people seem to be getting an "aha" moment with .one, realizing its strengths on so many levels.
Zilla pointed out the many merits of .one, but those of us investing in this TLD do not want to make the mistake of souring potential buyers because of unrealistic value/pricing, and turning them away from .one to other, subpar extensions where they may be more than happy to just 'make do'. After all, money talks, and most folks will do what ever it takes to save it.
We all know in this thread there's a ton of competition right now in the gTLD market, but with .one we have the edge because of its long-term hold viability (low renewals) and its blanket brandability (the word 'one' is incorporated in thousands of business names). So fair and appealing wholesale/retail (depending your model) pricing is an absolute must to keep this 'sleeper' TLD from going into a coma.
I think it's ok, depending on your portfolio size, to price some names extravagantly, because sure, they absolutely warrant it, and after all, it is an investment. While it is a balancing act, and we don't want to undervalue our good names, we should also consider pricing strategies for welcoming new investors in the game, because this brings potential for more eyes and a bigger audience.
Although sure many LLL's dropping daily, and still a ton of words avail to hand-reg, before we know it, this won't be the case anymore. There's going to be a huge mix of endusers using .one (in fact, there's already a healthy amount of usage right now), along with investors/endusers holding anything that makes sense or due to speculation. Whatever the case, I think ultimately still we are sitting on an opportunity that cannot be ignored, and keeping our names appealing through proper pricing is paramount for finalizing a case for anyone not familiar with the extension.
Just want to end with, .one for all, and all for .one! (as recently said in discussion with fellow member here), and thanks to Zilla and Bob for opening up your thoughts on it, love how we all stimulate each other particularly with something we're passionate about.
