Using WhoisXML API’s Newly Registered Domain (NRD) Database, we analyzed more than 9.3 million domains added between 1 and 30 September 2022. Insights from our analysis may help shed light on domain registration trends that can aid in making crucial domain investing decisions. Our key findings include:
But aside from .com, other TLDs that made it to the top 10 in September were .store, .site, .info, .shop, .online, .top, .org, .net, and .xyz. The chart below shows the domain TLD distribution.
The top 10 TLDs accounted for 85% of the total NRD volume. The rest of the domains were distributed across 760 other TLDs.
If you noticed, the top TLDs were either major or new gTLDs. When we zoomed in on the ccTLDs, we found that .us had the most number of NRDs at 0.6%.
Below are a few examples of punycode domains with their IDN equivalents.
Country-based strings, such as “us,” “jp,” “in,” and “es” were also popular, as shown in the word cloud above.
And, as usual, Internet-related terms like “app,” “online,” “shop,” and “store” repeatedly appeared among the NRDs. Some of these were the top keywords used in domain name marketplaces, attracting hundreds of bids per domain containing the terms.

Top TLDs of September NRDs

Analyzing the second-level domains (SLDs) can help us understand what types of domains are trending and possibly lucrative. IDNs appeared to be quite popular in September, considering the recurrence of “xn” among the NRDs.Below are a few examples of punycode domains with their IDN equivalents.
