Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

OK, read some weird info today + have an a actual update from relatives who live in Iran.

OK, from what I am told (from wife's aunt/uncle/fam) it's a mess there as they have even closed the hospital and medical services where they are. They think it's all of Iran, but they dont know. They whole family is still fine - they also said that no one they directly know has it yet. Fingers crossed.

Weird news - the US had testing done and believe the current virus test (at least the one in the USA) was returning over 75% false positive results. The article said they had a new batch developed, tested and that is going out now. - guess that was kind the explanation for slow to get testing up and running here? If that is true - possibly good news in terms of the spread #s?

Just wanted pass that on, particularly the actual update from real people.

As a safety precaution most of the nations are on a total lockdown at the moment, cutting all means of transportations from other countries. So the virus is not spreading from country to country now (That already happened though).
The cases that are coming on the surface like wildfire are due to spreading of the virus among people within their respective countries.

As it's a communicative disease it spreads from coming in contact with the infected people. During the early phase, It started when infected people from China traveled to other parts of the world, infecting others in the process. There was not enough awareness or a clue about what this virus was at that moment. By the time the world got serious about it, it was clear that we're looking at an imminent global pandemic.

Italy is now unable to admit new patients. We have to do our best to not overwhelm the healthcare systems. Those not practicing social distancing are irresponsible and putting others at risk. The sooner people take this seriously, the better we all are.

I live in Jersey City but frequently go to NYC via PATH and then MTA. There is "talk" that they might close travel to and from both cities via mass transit. I'd hate to get stuck in NYC with a 78 year old mother home alone in Jersey City.

What are the chance given the current state of this whole thing?

Currently there are 2,773 quarantined people in NYC and 11 in all of Hudson county New Jersey.

I think in Jersey City 2 are confirmed. God only knows how many more.

Italy announces 368 more coronavirus deaths

Italy on Sunday announced 368 new deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed death toll in the country to 1,809.

The total number of positive cases registered in Italy reached 24,747 on Sunday, with an increase of 3,590 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours.

Don't see a full lock down coming, I see some backlash coming tho. I would give it a couple of weeks, then people will start to get a bit antsy. Not all schools have closed, not hearing stories of kids dropping. I know many are on Spring Break.

first in, first out, as China gets well, Russia has been hit to the most minimal extent, the same with Pakistan and most of China closest allies

That's exactly what happens with conspiracy types. You get fed a bunch of bs and it's gets lapped up like a bunch of sheep. Most of it can be taken apart with a minimum of digging. I mean financearmageddon blogspot getting info from the likes of Alex Jones?

you know i have never posted anything conspiracy theory in the Political thread, that should tell you i am not into conspiracy stuff, but you do know i am a realist as opposed to political.

You're actually not talking any facts. There is nothing that it's some Xmas present from North Korea. The reported reason is the more likely reason:

"The source of the coronavirus is believed to be a "wet market" in Wuhan which sold both dead and live animals including fish and birds."

well thats equally bad.. but me I Wasn't talking about that.. I was talking about believing nothing and being open to everything... if you do that at least one day u have chance to find out truth... small chance.. but still better than the no chance to find out truth if you believe the news or some one singular consp theory.

its not a conspiracy theory to be open to many possibilities.

They (Chinese government) cracked down very early on reports by their citizens. The Chinese government went through a very public battle with the original doctor who mysteriously died....Go ahead, believe what you want. If you think things are under control and improving in China prove it. Prove it.

South Korea publicly announced the special Christmas present they would deliver to the USA, China has the biggest Bio laboratory in the world nestled in Wuhan China, the USA sanctions on North Korea and the serious talks of America bringing it's products to factory back in the USA, Russia playing mediator through all this, The one main country that China has trusted for a very long time, Pakistan.
