I am just curious to know what are the first 3 things you do after a buy/reg/push for a new name. I am sure we all do things differently some like to update their excels, some just look at the domain name. I personally update the DNS then update my excel and lastly move on to list the name on dan, afternic and, sedo.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Usually, I will change NS to my host, create a host profile for the domain, then create my own lander from a simple template that I have made. Takes 5 minutes and the site lander is usually live.

Then I'll look at doing other things...

The Big First 3 Things hmm.. well;

1) I regret the whole dam purchase.
2) Immediately start looking for another new name to make up for the regret.
3) Realize that there's no regrets, just missed opportunities. Why didn't someone tell me about domains in the early 90?

after all that.. I move on to the next Big 3 Things:

1) Record my domains vitals in spreadsheet, eg. expiry date, registrar, domain type/attributes, whois
2) Set up my new domain with it's own sales lander in my portfolio or exterior marketplace
3) Contemplate showing the domain off here on NP..but then realize it's back to the missed opportunities thing.

I put it on every marketplace I use...make sure minimum and/or sale price is reasonable...make sure casing is correct.

1. make a logo for it , share the big news here, put it into my folio site
2. forget it until renew email received
3. drop or keep? this is a question..

LOL, I have regrets. Every time I buy a domain name I think about the three big ones I dropped years ago, and I'm so paranoid about repeating that mistake that I'm going to have to keep renewing this newly aquired name for eternity.

Paste the names to new_names.txt and open the Terminal to run:

python3 main.py -i
python3 main.py —set-mx=dn1.com,dn2.com
python3 godaddy.py —set-ns=dn1.com,dn2.com

(dn1.com, dn2.com is just a sample, and can be an arbitrary number of names)

First command creates new listings for my website; performs Whois lookup to pull the creation date; adds new DNS records on VPS server (redirect to the landing page, add Sedo verification TXT). Second command is needed if I want to setup the Catch-all emails via ImrovMx.com. All is left is to update the domains’ nameservers to point to my VPS which is done by running the third command (in the case of Godaddy or manually for other Registrars).

Next thing is to export a CSV file from my website and upload it to DAN and Afternic. Manually add domains to Sedo....

Finally, update the spreadsheet: name, purch. date, price, registrar.

Rub your belly and pray that someone will buy for big $$$$$

  1. Delete the old nameservers
  2. Boil the kettle
  3. Make a cup of tea
Like any other self respecting Englishman.... :pompous:

Hi

this has been my procedure for the past 16 years.

change dns to one of the parking services, for time being
list at various ppc's/marketplaces, so i can rotate the name in future
add it to notepad and save.

then go take a puff....

First 3 things I do with the domain
A. List them on Godaddy auctions, Afternic, and Sedo ( do necessary changes with the DNS so they get validated)
B. List some of them for parking either at Sedo or Afternic
C. Forward some of them (if the name pertains to products) to my appropriate Amazon associate affiliate page.

Once the sale is completed I literally do these three things right off the bat:

1 - PDF all of the new purchase transaction records and place 'em in a new folder on the desktop - like to keep a name and its " paperwork " together and organized;

2 - Always check Whois to make certain the name is there and details such as purchase date and expiration date are accurately recorded - even though I use privacy ;

3 - Work the DNS as appropriate for the new name.

1. Note the name down on my notepad including the purchased details (date, price and host)
2. List on various market place
3. Check for available end users

1. After registering a domain, think of myself as a genius Domain Name Prodigy who's the only person who thought of registering that name. And say to myself...this shit is too easy.
2. Put it for sale/make offer on Sedo, Dan, GoDaddy and Uniregistry.
3. Come to NP and look for threads with similar domain names and tell myself mine is better.
