.XYZ, the seventh most registered generic domain extension (gTLD), is one of the first new gTLDs and now has more than 3.5 million registered domain names.

The Story of .XYZ
.XYZ was officially delegated by ICANN as part of the new gTLD program in June 2014. XYZ.com LLC manages and operates the .XYZ extension.

.XYZ is being marketed with the concept of “X, Y and Z Generation”. They say in their website that “Generations X, Y, and Z create a global community inspired by the Internet and its limitless potential. We are giving internet users -young and old, near and far- an innovative new platform to connect with the world in a whole new way.”

The sunrise period for .XYZ domain names began on 20 March 2014 and finished on 20 May 2014. On 02 June 2014, .XYZ became publicly available for registration.

Still waiting on someone to buy www.wines.xyz or www.whiskey.xyz

I believe that xyz has done a poor job of supporting their marketing efforts and there is literally no single word .xyz selling ... the only domains that have sold for great value in the extension are number related ...

You are still holding your .xyz domains though there were no .xyz words selling. And priced at 30K. Good job.

Patience. I do get offers over 1k but all rejected, 30k is not that much for good dictionary words in my opinion. Maybe Daniel Negari has bigger picture so he arranged his funds on something else such like acquiring other ntlds or enforcing security functions etc. but I do feel marketing is kinda lack a bit.(In my experience something that meant to do but hasn't happened yet all because of money issue...)
The question is how to promote and advertise it in the best way except cheap promotion 1st year, I also think .xyz has its own good advantages but haven't utilized well yet.

Let me correct myself - the names themselves are valuable - single dictionary keywords with a matching or neutral extension that make sense can prove to be valuable

Daniel Negari on the other hand has done a poor job marketing .xyz and GTLDs in general to the average consumer ... This does not mean that I will drop my .xyz names because I am aware of a timing factor in any investment ~

And $30K is really nothing when it comes to the exact keyword here - wines.com was bought at $2.9M in 2010 according to NameBio and for sale at $1.2M in 2017 ... so for me to ask 2.5% of the value of the .com that hasn’t sold ... I don’t think that’s unfair, not in the slightest - and for someone who can develop this name into an actual online wine marketplace, it’s a killer
marketable name !

I agree, all the dictionaries words have been taken you can’t find any of them by hand reg, if any buyer say it’s .xyz so it should be cheap which it usually happened to me, tell them don’t even bother if you don’t like it (but I know they like it). The second year renewal is about same as .com.

What kind of marketing do you guys think .xyz should be trying? I see a decent amount of their usual stuff (newsletter, social media, etc.) but I'm curious what you guys think they need to do to get .XYZ to be a brand name?

20 years of marketing and a couple Super Bowls, maybe Times Square ;) in all seriousness, the majority of consumers don’t understand new internet Realestate

I think the first year of reg fee less than $1 is a very good strategy of letting new internet users to try this ngtld, and I believe Daniel absolutely knows the solid value of a domain extension is real adoptions of using it develop websites and I feel he’s working on it, but the consequence is that it gave people a impression how cheap .xyz should be acquired and it’s not good sign for .xyz investors, I remember Warren Buffett said something like “a good company should have considered their investors’ interests”, if .xyz will have considered more about it so their investors will have been initiatively advertising .xyz by their self-action, of course it will cause more domain squatter coming out but it still not that bad because the most .xyz need is more significant sales record coming out. on the contrary I think the way to against cheap impression is to give it more Ads about focusing on its quality and trending to make it like the Balenciaga of the domain industry.

Jimmy he already made a bulk sale for the entire rest of xyz names that had not sold at one penny a piece ... he needs a justified renewal, and there needs to be a course of action where people are not educated about just one extension but GTLDs in general and domains as a whole and how important they are for the business

He is already a successful man at some point of views, so the point I said is not pursuing a bulk sale but a bulk high value sales record, every action will cost money so I would prefer spend more on good Ads at this stage, although education is important, like educate to college students, young generations, etc…, which he did keep working on it for many years, but if I were him and I do really love my domain, in my deep mind my target will be to exceed .com not just to be next .com, so if I focus on educating people without Ads at this stage, at the end it might lead to people eventually pursue .com considered the reputation of .com, even they've been educated. The timing is very important.

I like .xyz because I don't know why, but Google appreciate it in search results. Might be because Google owns ABC.XYZ for Alphabet. And I heard Larry Page owns 1 other .xyz for his personal use (I don't remember the domain, it was mentioned by a news a view year ago). When I used to be a hotel manager, I made small websites with keyword reach .xyz and gain 2000 page views a month by 10 blogspots. I think .xyz is something good in the future. It seem .xyz already a choice by big companies.

Another big Silicon Valley company using .xyz is Hooli.

And also Starship.xyz

Lol, 'they' also own the .com. Go watch Silicon Valley, the series ;).
Only Hooli that owns by HBO. Is Alphabet Google own Alphabet.com? No.. Is starship own starship.com ? No..

Ok, I'll be more clear. Hooli is a fictional company from the Silicon valley series. Not a real one. The domains are registered by HBO for brand protection. Worth to watch btw, quite funny.

I know that. But Alphabet Google and Starship are real companies. And they don't have the .com of their .xyz domains. I said Hooli owned by big company : HBO not Hooli. And Hooli is a satyre of real Silicon Valley Companies. While there is a marketing technique says that companies have to own dot com while making website, it is used as a joke while real Silicon Valley Companies don't think so. Of course some companies still believe they have to own .com. But for Google, Starship and some Silicon Valley start ups it is only a buzz.
