Hi NamePros,

We’re announcing the launch of the .crypto domain extension on 12/11. 50,000 domains have already been registered. Go to https://unstoppabledomains.com/?ref=namepros to find available domains.

You’ve probably all heard about cryptocurrency, but may not be aware that new domain extensions are being launched on blockchains. These domains are not part of the ICANN system. They are stored by the owner, with their private key, not by a registrar like Godaddy. No one can transfer a domain or update it other than the owner. If you store website content on decentralized storage instead of Amazon Web Services, then no one can take down your website other than you.

A blockchain domain + Decentralized storage = An uncensorable website

This is the beginning of an entirely new internet built to protect free speech around the world.

Blockchain domain features
  • No Renewals - Pay once and it’s yours ... forever

  • No Custodian - Domains are stored by the owner. No third party can move or update them

  • Payments - The domain can be used as a payment address for cryptocurrencies. Send Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, or any other currency all to the same domain

  • Uncensorable Websites - Attach domains to content on decentralized storage and create an uncensorable website

  • Transfers - Escrow agents aren’t needed. Transfer to anyone in the world in under 1 minute with no risk of being defrauded

We’ll be moderating this thread and we’d love to hear your thoughts!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Every decent domain is reserved. You are promoting on NP so Do you expect people go after wtvrdomain.crypto ? Even wtf.crypto is unavailable

UD launched a blockchain browser, avail for download at their site. It can resolve .crypto and .zil extensions, and uses the IPFS:// protocol rather than the HTTP:// that we're used to.

Seems pretty slick thus far, based on Chromium. Thought I'd see if one of my earlier sites that I'd previously made with IPFS desktop would resolve, and it did so with no hitches. Seems though you can even use a template avail from right inside your account in UD and upload right to IPFS from there and have it go live.

Way to go UD. What a difference in the url bar! Here's a screenshot:

I believe Brad a few months ago said the tools for decentralized websites were like the days of dial_up internet. Regardless, I should at least attempt to use a domain and launch a simple site - just for practice. But since .crypto runs on ethereum, do we spend eth to launch or interact with the site?

I am not sure if this is a back or merely a migration of the platform or what? Up until several days ago I could see my .crypto domains within the Trust wallet on my cellphone. Now it says no collectibles found but references OpenSea.io I can see the domains there as recently listed and it says owned by you (me) I still see the .Crypto domains within my Unstoppable account though it seems I can no longer do updates from my tablet. Interestingly for some domains including mine one can find what other .crypto domains a particular user owns (at least if they have been claimed) by following the OpenSea link from Unstoppable Domains. However, I was able to add an email contact and designate as for sale for one. Perhaps just a migration.

Ok visiting OpenSea.io and searching for Unstoppable Domains it appears there are more than 53.5k domains listed among more than 7.2k holders.

I tried clearing the dapp browser cache and lowering off the cell and then restarting - no luck. What did work was going to Google Play Store and updating the app :)

Apparently OpenSea.io is the primary marketplace for blockchain collectibles. Well, I have now listed for sale on OpenSeas my first .Crypto domain - a South Florida geo.

Fyi to list on OpenSea / open an account they need to run two ETH transactions which you must pay so you need ETH in your wallet. I believe the total cost for the two transactions was around US$0.30 - insigniifact. This is a one-time deal - not for each domain listed.

Is it a way to view what .crypto domains have sold there?

To find recent sales on OpenSeas.io search for UnstoppableDomains and select the filter for recently sold.

For some reason I thought MEW (MyEtherWallet) was capable of receiving ERC-20 tokens so just for the sake of learning I tried sending a .crypto domain from my Trust wallet to my MEW wallet. Trust did remove the domain and OpenSea.io recognizes that the domain was transferred. But it does not appear in the MEW wallet - perhaps lost but I did this with a domain I was not overly concerned about losing.

That transfer also removed the domain from my Unstoppable account. I do have a note of the ETH address I used but I guess there may be some additional technical requirements to receive a blockchain domain that are not known by the average individual.

So it’s lost. A solid reason why .crypto is no bueno.

Contact UD support. The domain is still recorded on chain and is recoverable.

Using Etherscan.io I was able to find the transaction. My MEW wallet says no tokens found. Metamask like Trust has tabs for coins and collectibles but I need to get some guidance on how to do these domain transfers before assuming it is as simple as sending to an ethereum wallet address.

Some wallets have trouble reading an erc721 token. TW seems to be one of the better ones. IMO.

I tried going on OpenSea to submit an offer for the lost domain and discovered that to do so one has to have Wrapped Ether. Learning....

Fyi to increase the list BIN price at Open Sea one has to cancel the listing and pay a gas fee ($.07 in my case) and then relist. I believe the BIN price can be lowered with no fee but since offers can be submitted below the BIN....

UD also announced a blockchain browser.

Years ago exact match domains received a significant search engine ranking benefit at Google. I wonder how their browser will work with regard to ranking blockchain vs regular sites.

Today I registered : Holdem.Crypto (like Texas holdem)
For-Sale.Crypto And a couple more .

I wonder how this will play out since .crypto tld was sold on Handshake, and since UD did not claim it, it will be a publicly available tld for registration on the blockchain.
I mean, good look suing someone on decentralized web who holds ownership of this tld.

Just saw the news that .crypto domains resolve on Opera for Android. The blockchain domain community, including developers, seem to be really pumped about Web3. Things are moving fast in this space.
