I try to purchase a domain (gtld), and it has ICANN fee that is around $400/year. I know because the keyword is premium. Will this fee one day change? Increased/decreased?

Some site saying $400/year, but some sites saying premium $400 and $25/year. I am confused.

@Chacha Wixard Some domains are offered directly by registry at premium prices. Usually its the first year you have to pay premium price and then every year a renewal fee. Now renewal fee again can be a bit different for premium domains. So you need to see separately the price of initial purchase and then what the renewal price is. Which gTLD

Thanks. I think I understand.

GoDaddy $499.99 $39.99/yr when you renew. DynaDot $420.00 Renewal $23.97. But on mobile phone DynaDot showing $413/year. Epik showing Yearly Registration $413.

I can't pay $400/yearly :) But if only one time premium by central registrar and then $20-$30/year I can afford that.

The funny thing was NameCheap did not add ICAN fee on showing cart and just showing $4.00 to checkout that domain, so I was happy to checkout. It was charging my Paypal $4.00 then .... failed... saying there is ICANN fee $400+ ... boo.

Here the answer from central registry (company who own gtld):

==================================
Thank you for your email and interest in the domain [xxxxx].[yyyyyy], it would be great to see you register the name and use the site soon.

Our registrar partners vary in price, it is completely down to you to choose one that suits your budget needs best. Many of our registrar partners charge a one off higher premium price for the first year and then every renewal after that is at the normal standard price, however some registrars do charge the full higher premium price each year. What our registrar partners charge for our tlds is out with our control. Please have a look through all our registrar partners from the link below and choose which one suits you best. If you need anything else then just let me know.

==================

Really? Registrar (partner) can charge yearly premium more than central registry? $400 upfront and $24/year and $400/year is completely different. First I thought someone own the domain already and trying to rent out the domain. I kept comparing prices in many websites GD, DD, EP, NS, NC, etc. I picked one the best price and checkout. No yearly premium.

New gTLDs can be the wild west. Registries can basically do whatever they want.

This fee however would not be an ICANN fee. It would be a fee from the registry or registrar.

I agree. The title ICANN fee came from NameCheap error message asking me to pay $413 with label ICANN. Later I found it is not ICANN.
