I'm looking for names in ANY NICHE that have BONKERS backlink profiles that have DROPPED in the past. What I mean by "bonkers" is that they have links from a bunch of sites that everybody has heard of.

Obviously, names with great backlinks from huge sites that haven't dropped can sell for thousands, even with bad domains, but I'm looking for ones that HAVE dropped and I'm expecting to pay much less.

It's my understanding that once they have dropped, they lose a good chunk of their potential SEO value from those links, and I want to run some tests to see if that seo power ever comes back. I've heard of sites popping back after 12-16 months, but google themselves say that once it drops, the links lose their value... but I want to see how true that is first hand.

Along with the domain name, please include the top 10-15 backlinks, AND your asking price. I'm going to put together a shortlist, check into the histories and links of the domains, and start making some offers in the coming days. If your asking price is too optimistic, I may not see room to negotiate, so please keep that in mind if you're serious about selling these names.

I'm open to most extensions, most keywords/niches, just looking for QUALITY links from HUGE popular sites.

Budget is $50-$550 but really depends on the names. Keep in mind these are names that have DROPPED/EXPIRED and we're testing to see if they can re-gain their SEO value a year+ down the road.

Also open to JV if you believe in this strategy and think there's upside. Let's chat!

I tested it some years ago on multiple dropped domains of me. Seo power came back almost in full under certain conditions.

In short, you must be the same person who actually dropped domain and must still have the website files. Then you hand reg the domain you dropped (or buy it from the new owner) and put the website online as before. If you can do these, then yes, seo power comes back usually in 6-12 months depending on how many backlinks lost and how long the drop lasted. So what google says is mostly correct because it's almost impossible to reinstate the old content while the most important backlinks are still alive. They just don't say it's not because of the drop itself. The real reason is the lack of old content and backlinks only, not the drop.

In my tests, after 12 months organic search traffic stabilized. The dropped period was 3 - 24 months in my tests. I did not test but I believe more than 50% backinks of a domain will be removed from other websites after a 2 years of drop period. Yes a website can regain those backlinks, even can gain better backlinks, as long as there is an "old website" before the drop. Content is king in SEO.

Also note that it will be impossible for you to measure how much organic traffic lost for the drop unless you know the old traffic stats to compare.

@poweredbyme Thank you!! That's interesting. I wonder how much leeway there is between "old website" and "new website that re-creates the old URLs that other sites were linking to as much as possible, I wonder if having the same theme etc matters? Since websites change themes sometimes, even when they aren't changing ownership.

I picked up a really juicy domain that had dropped, and it's niche-relevant to one of my sites, so I'm going to try to re-create some of the pages that had links pointing to them, on my new site, and 301 about 10 of the juicier URL's from the old site to the new articles on my new site. The new site has had very very minimal offpage done thus far, so if I see any notable movements, it'll be encouraging at least.

theme has no importance in SEO as long as it's mobile friendly and doesn't make the text content invisible or very difficult to read. In fact don't copy the same theme and content unless you are the original owner. You may have copyright wars with the old owner.
