I've a .fr domain in Namecheap. My renewal is day after tomorrow .But still they are asking for $210 redemption fee. They are not even allowing to transfer out.
Any way to avoid paying this exorbitant amount.

Again namecheap is doing what it does the best.Holding Information .Namecheap is reselling enom. That true. But they didn't tell that enom is reselling Hexonet. Thanks to @Rob Monster for pointing this out.

The chain is as follows (as far as I can understand.point me if I'm wrong): afnic-->hexonet-->enom-->namecheap.

Why on earth would they just not resell (which they shouldn't in first place considering their establishment) directly from Hexonet. They deliberately choose enom which has $250 restoration fees and $12.5 registration fees over Hexonet who has €17.5 restoration and €11.78 registration fees.I just wonder why.
If namecheap has directly sourced their domain from afnic or even from hexonet there won't be any "12 days before" rule.

Namecheap choose to work with company with most evil t&c.they choose to abide by enom's absurd rules and now when it comes to giving proper service to their customer, Namecheap is saying they can't do anything we are just following instructions and I quote "though we want to improve conditions to eliminate these fees".Guess what, you can .just skip enom on reseller ladder or partner with a good company. If you are following instruction on an evil entity,It makes you equally evil.Your reputation will always be linked to enom if all you say is "we just follow them".You have to take responsibility because I'm your customer. Not enom's

Also please give some clarity on denying me authorization codes.

@tamar still waiting for your response to this.

There's nothing further we can add here. Our relationship is with Enom, and we aren't getting a break on the redemption fee either.

Mind you, we had this relationship for close to 20 years now. None of this is new information. Your several renewal emails (you would have gotten at least two that emphasized the urgency) said that you must renew the domain name within 12 days.

Do I like the policy? Not any more than you do. But this is exactly why we've slowly been managing our own registrations and eliminating these obstacles. However, at this time we don't have the power you are asking us to wield.

@tamar So you are still a reseller after so many years in business?

As I've said a few times in this thread, we've slowly been moving away from that business model, and have made tremendous strides in doing so in the past few years. But it's not an overnight process.

Let us know when this process will be over :)

I don't think namecheap is in the wrong here. Don't forget that 20 years ago enom was one of the go-to resellers.

When investing in ccTLDs it's always wise to use a directly accredited registrar, a local one by preference. They're usually cheaper as well.

I hold almost all my ccTLDs at registrars residing in the the TLD's country. (i.e. .de in Germany, .se in Sweden, .co.uk in UK, etc). It saves you a lot of hassle especially if you speak the language. It doesn't always go for the more obscure TLDs but you get the point.

Hexonet is a great alternative though. We're investors ( at least we'd like to think so) so do your due diligence on your 'investing partner'.

That being said, It's still a bummer for OP. Hope you can get it worked out and if the name is decent enough it might be good to just cough up the money and transfer out afterwards.

Drop it and get it back later. Worth 200 risk?

Ouch. I know it hurts right now but if you can recoup that money with advertising or a future sale it will be worth it!

Good luck with the name and even if it didn't help you, threads like this are great resources for others!
