You could use dot media extension if you can find something generic to go in front of it.

Instagr.am, del.ico.us, possible on country code but not new tld.

If your network is unique, inviting and user friendly enough, it will probably attract people.The domain name importance is secondary (but important as well, as any brand name).

A short and cool ngTLD or ccTLD might be better than a long .com. But if you’re willing to invest in the project, you will probably find a good and suitable .com on this forum, or any domain auction platform etc.
