Or should we expect all transfer costs to be high for all registrars at the same time, so when it is time to renew, there is no way to escape? Can we negotiate for very cheap transfer costs for large number of domains?
What is the cost for a registrar for old tlds. Icann fee only? If so renewals can't be made cheap. But maybe some entity like icann, or a registrar union may prevent cheap renewals.
For renewing for 10 years, maybe 10 transfers may work better than other alternatives.
For lower quality domains it may make sense to drop and buy again, hoping others won't take it first. This way 35 days or maybe 90 days of renewal would be free.
