I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

Just finished checking out your picks. Well organized and thought out...

Couldn't help but notice this "but the majority of these contain at least one undesirable character (J, Q, X, Y, Z)".....while a great "rule of thumb" about lower quality letters in LLL (unless tripled) .....think the exception to this "rule" in (dot) ca is the letter "Q"! Simple and main reason is Quebec...

Just my thoughts...

You would think so, but in my experience this doesn't hold true and most of the organizations with Quebec in the title are groups/societies, non-profit, political, government or government-funded.

My french is not as fluent as it once was, so can't think of any french acroymns But if I was trying to sell a LLL.ca with "Q", I would use Quebec as a possible sales point.

While on the french topic...found this interesting about IDN.."contains words that use diacritics (such as French accented letters)"

For example, I have sold 3 "Q" LLL domains in my life, and two of those were for Q last names in firms and the other was for a dictionary word in the title of the company. Absolutely Zero "Quebecs" which is why I did a little research into what type of organization uses "Quebec" in their title.

Due to this, a lot of them use .GOV.whatever, .COM, .ORG, and many even use .QUEBEC.

Yeah, but that RHQ one is likely destined to fail, as I am thinking it's because of someone looking to sell it to RHQ in Montreal, which incidentally used to use RHQ.ca to forward to their current website before totally dropping it, LOL

Yeah maybe it will fail or maybe not...can be a real end user, just a guess, sure don't have insider information..

My main point (and it was proven be the 3 characters domains that were picked up) is that it is just a "rule of thumb" maybe even outdated rule about lower quality letters Q, X, Y, Z.

I bought lots of 3 character (or less) domains in my history ...never made a decision based of "lower quality" letters...

Anyway, your blog got a few views...

For companies buying off TBR, the letter quality or combination doesn't matter in the least if the letters match their specific acronym. RDC or QZX, it doesn't matter, it just matters that it matches.

But for a reseller is matters a lot, and I can absolutely guarantee I can find more end users looking for RDC, EDL or ADC than QZX, YZJ or JQZ, hence the higher potential price.

And it's easy to prove, just go look at LLL.ca sales history - the majority of big sales are for higher-end letter combos.Or go look at .CA marketplaces like MyID, the higher quality the letters, the higher the price, sometimes significantly so.

Love to see the stats for .ca sold in 2017, 2016,2016 etc ...
almost certain 2018 will set a record...2019 will beat it....etc!

My opinion..previous sales price means nothing...dot com bubble proves it
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dot-com_bubble and a lot of people use sales history as a sales tool ...

Another opinion...Anyone with more than a double digit IQ can spin stats to their advantage..it done everyday in the medical field, politics, etc

But we're talking about overall trends and not specific prices, and those are consistent.

For example, dictionary word .COM prices are down from the boom, but the better words are still at the top of the market and the best still sell for 5 and 6-figures.

cryptoinvestments
.ca
Was eyeing this one as well. Not yet fully confident in how crypto domains perform at the ccTLD level, but I've hedged my apprehension by owning a few myself. A very solid domain if (when) sales pick up.
