Having some trouble with GoDaddy at the moment and would appreciate your feedback or if @Joe Styler could step in and help out.

Fixit.co.uk was caught for me yesterday. I gave the GoDaddy tag so that the domain can be pushed into my account. Whois is showing everything correctly with 1 year until expiry, but the domain usually needs to be manually put into my account by support. They normally set up a FREE domain transfer order on my behalf and the domain gets put into my account.
This time the support is adamant that the only way for the domain to be added to my account is to pay for an EXTRA 1 year registration before they can do it in the system.

As I have already paid for 1 year as part of the catching fee with Nominet (which includes a FREE push to whichever Registrar I want to use) I am not prepared to pay for another year just to have access to the domain in my account!

Why has this process changed in the last 3 weeks since my last .co.uk transfer?

My only options now are to pay the extra fee and stop using GoDaddy for holding my .uk domains, or make a complaint to GoDaddy and if nothing is resolved follow that up with a complaint to Nominet.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I guess you have to look at the value of the service. If it is OK, then just add the renewal fee to the sale price. The guy who gets it from you will still be getting value for money. :)

I suppose that is one way of looking at it. But on the other hand if I had been transferring in multiple domains to GoDaddy the extra upfront cost would mean money tied up that could have been used elsewhere.

Update on the situation is, I called Nominet and they said it was nothing to do with them from their end.
GoDaddy still state on their website that .co.uk transfers in are free so any change to TOS would conflict with what they are advertising.

I called GoDaddy again however and spoke to someone else and they don't really understand why there would be a change in fee now. Anyway in this instance they charged me, but will get back to me with a refund (i hope).

I will update the thread once they get back to me with why this is happening, just in case anyone else is thinking of transferring a .uk into GoDaddy.

If the Second person who you spoke with is going to give you a refund then it is likely a mistake by the first person. The expert on co.uk transfers is out of the office right now, this is a big travel week for us. I expect that we did not change anything in regards to co.uk transfers and you got bad info from the person you spoke with, which I apologize for.

I also tried to transfer a .co.uk domain name and I have the same problem. It was always free of charge.

Godaddy chat: I do understand that you were transferring it free before but no added registration was added on the domains

So there is no possibility to transfer it without added registration?

@Joe Styler thank you for joining the thread.

I am still waiting for email confirmation of why this is happening at the moment, and as yet have still not received any refund.

I will follow up tomorrow and see what is going on.

I answered this above.

Joe I appreciate your initial response and yes I can see you stated that it should still be free and working like it used to.

However, I still had to pay to get the domain in my account and whilst I am happy to believe GoDaddy will keep word of a refund, I haven't received it yet.

I would also like some kind of explanation (not necessarily from you personally) on why the GoDaddy system is charging for the transfer at the moment and when it will be resolved.
If no reason is given then I will just use a different registrar next time for these transfers as it will be less hassle.

I don't think we are changing anything. I think you were provided bad information, however I can confirm that 100% next week. If you send me a private message it will help me remember to check in when everyone is back from vacation. Here is the official help document on our site which states you do not have to pay. https://www.godaddy.com/help/about-uk-domains-5854#3

I am trying to transfer 3 .co.uk domains but everytime I arrive at the last page, suddenly I have to pay 10 pounds for each transfer. So something has changed. Now it comes with 1 year registration and before you could just transfer it without renewal. Thanks for helping Joe.

I got an answer this morning from the department. There is a bug that they are fixing. It is not happening on purpose they are working to fix it. In the mean time you can ask us for a refund and you will get one. I am sorry this is not ideal I know but we are working on fixing it.
