The internet domain registrar and web hosting company is making it easier to search for and register available emoji-based domains. On Friday, the company launched a search engine for emoji domains. People can visit the site on their phones, type in a string of emoji and see if the domain is available.
As more of the world increasingly uses the internet on phones and other mobile devices, a flood of emoji-based domains seems inevitable. Heck, even the Touch Bar on Apple's new MacBook Pro will let you type in emoji, something that's difficult to do with a traditional computer keyboard...

Not really... only .ws allows emojis, none of the other do, even though a :xf.smile: looks nothing like an English character.

Fair enough, but this can easily be addressed. They could simply disallow characters that look like other letters, yet allow most of the picture Emojis.
It could still be deceiving/confusing to consumers:
  • ❤BankOfAmerica.com
  • BankOfAmerica❤.com
  • BankOfAmerica.❤❤.com
It'd be easier to trick inexperienced internet users because they trust .com more than .ws or other country codes.

I see you point, but I think inexperienced internet users probably don't even look at the URL, and even if they do they can so easily be tricked with current URL structures anyway, eg
BankOfAmerica.co
BankOfAmerica.xyz/com
BankOfAmerica.us/com

Hi there... a little late, but I just created a Reddit group for folks who want to talk more about Emoji Domains: reddit.com/r/EmojiDomains/

☁.com is kind of a neat domain... registered before ICANN cracked down on emojis on dotcoms, it's definitely pretty unique. Curious what it's actually worth in the aftermarket...

BIN has been set to 100k. It's a reasonable ask. Probably won't sell, not enough people know that an emoji domain is even possible, let alone one grandfathered in from a dot-com extension. A wealthy private investor or fat wallet show and tell company would bite if they knew about it.

Thanks guys for the heads up on this. Although WAY late for the cream, I spent a few hours last night researching, and a few more hours this morning. I WAS able to pick up not only a single emoji, but got this one:

Personally, I am blown away that I got this one. One of the most powerful simple symbols. A keeper, I think. Then I got 9 more doubles. I got

heart.png
heart.png
678087-heart-128.png
plus these......Diamond, Euro, Pound Sterling, Germany, Russia, Golf.......and finally....

latest
Eyes....plus: Heart, Credit Card, $

10 total for $50. It wasn't like these were random and they all were available - far from it. 99% of the ones I wanted were taken. Coca Cola has all the smiley emojis, for instance, and are doing their "Emoticoke" campaign now.

My two cents is that, of course, they will not replace domains, BUT, an easy fun tool to bring in people with ad campaigns and such, then redirect them. Seems the largest corps will have the powerful singles like $, heart, etc.

I certainly would not put any real money in it, especially after the best singles are gone. Maybe some choice doubles. I bet that this will be a feeding frenzy with tons of people registering all kinds of crap silliness. But the .WS registry and GoDaddy are going to be the happiest!

Sorry but I have no idea how all of those extra hearts and eyes showed up. They were not there when I posted it. Weird.

Whilst finding single character emoji is becoming harder & harder to obtain, I was very fortunate to pick up the beautiful dancer emoji.IMG_5095.PNG

what domain investors are e extremely good at is the ability to search databases via a search engine -so whether we search domains or emoji databases we have the skills to profit from either

the only problem that emoji success would cause is if emoji domains were the way forward - if that were to happen it would affect those with huge portfolios and huge renewals with vastly reduced sales but even then there would be nothing stopping domain name registrars becoming emoji registrars or brokers

i can be see it now lol

when your friends ask you what your job is etc and you tell them you are an emoji domain name
broker/investor

If you guys are so interested in symbols that are NOT on typical keyboards then what do you make of character symbols that ARE on pc keyboards, and can be a part of domains, such as:

¬

£
And so on...

Cheers,

single emoji .com's will sell for silly bucks

we are effectively where the original domain legends were back in the early 90's with domain names but we are at the start of the emoji domain name phenomenom

a bit like loom bands and look how fast that took off

Emojis are a form of emotive expression, in image form, which makes them so strong. Those symbols you have are pretty cool too, but not the same practical use. Collectors' items. I own a couple myself as well.
