The internet domain registrar and web hosting company is making it easier to search for and register available emoji-based domains. On Friday, the company launched a search engine for emoji domains. People can visit the site on their phones, type in a string of emoji and see if the domain is available.
As more of the world increasingly uses the internet on phones and other mobile devices, a flood of emoji-based domains seems inevitable. Heck, even the Touch Bar on Apple's new MacBook Pro will let you type in emoji, something that's difficult to do with a traditional computer keyboard...

Agreed, that and different skin tones for the faces add up to a problem with this form of media

for a .ws crazy times maybe its a good time ?
The .ws registry would have had many drops after the chips explosion, many people went down the .ws road only to realise the "chips" craze was over, so they may gain a little but they did lose a heap of registrations over the last year I would suggest. These are also a "gamble" but in a visual world they have some merrit

Single or double emojis .ws to me have more staying power than a text word, so renewal rates should be higher than past .ws domains. There's little heart (yeah I went there) or soul to text. Since almost everyone has a cell phone, and probably on it longer than a computer, you're looking at a huge potential with emojis. You guys are all smart investors in domain assets/property, you all might at least consider buying an option for that possibility.

Until the critical mass get it they remain "stagnant" Hard enough telling folks what a normal domain is
You're waiting until they get to that point and buy them at that time?

I have an article on Medium looking at the things that would have to happen for emoji domains not to become more valuable.

If you fancy a coffee and a little read you can check it out :writer:

Nice read, great write-up. And with my coffee. :)

Definitely agreed, they are here to stay. In the past year alone I can't believe the emoji explosion. Even walking through the mall the other day, the jewelry store People's had a huge display of official Emoji jewelry. I had no idea the term emoji had been trademarked as a brand until I saw that.

Even if wearable emoji fashion is a passing fad, which is not likely, using emojis as a form of communication has become standard. It is only natural for this standard to bleed to domain names.

Thank you very much. There's always time for a coffee!

It's quite fascinating that emoji have been trademarked. You can basically get emoji everything.

Plus since the beginning of the year we're seeing a jump in interest from the domaining community. Single emoji can be seen trading at 800-1000 dollars. That's a great ROI for anyone who hand regged singles. There are things that could upset the boat but that is where people see the risk and if it wasn't risky the opportunity wouldn't have been there.

Thanks for reading and commenting here too!
