I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable, regardless of where in the world you live and which cultural background you come from.

Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

问候卡 (Wen Hou Ka = greeting card) 3-pin. So it is a real term, but both Wenhouka.cn and Wenhouka.com.cn are not registered yet, according to my Whois check. Baidu search has not revealed any domain name with similar names. 生日卡 (birthday card) has 720k Baidu results and 问候卡 (greeting card) 127k. Detailed research may reveal the reason.

the fellow asked if we had any ".vc" NN or LL names.
Yes, .vc is good for those in the VC business. One famous example is China.vc as covered in my Feb 22 post.

i stands for initial consonant in Pinyin. Do a search on it for details.

BJ may mean 保健 (health care), 比较 (compare), 北京 (Beijing), 报价 (price quote), or 搬家 (move to a different address). Research is required to identify end users.

Hi @Kassey Lee

Hope you're doing well. I would like your opinion on a type of domain name if you don't mind? What do you think of a NLLLLN.com? Where N will be the number 8 and LLLL will be a popular Chinese surname. Do you think this type of domain will be of significant value to anyone in the Chinese market?

Apologies if this has been asked before. I'm not sure how to search for or find posts of the nature!

@GAhmed, welcome. There's no need to apologize. I'm not smarter than you are. I only started earlier than you did. OK. about the pattern NLLLLN.com. I have not seen any Chinese company using this pattern. Usually, 4L is marginal (used mainly by small Chinese companies) and 5L and beyond are rare. When it comes to patterned type domain names, the chips experts may know more. I'm ignorant of chips so can't help.

Thanks for getting back. I've just been reading your guides on Chinese numbers and letters. Interesting posts!

The reason I'm pursuing a NLLLLN.com domain is because after reading an article on here on popular surnames (not sure if I'm allowed to repost the link again?), I thought I'd search what domain names were available to hand reg on godaddy.

The only combination that I thought was good and available was the number 8 before and after the surname. But after reading your post on Chinese numbers I realised the number 8 by itself stood for "bar"?! I had the understanding that the number 8 in general was a lucky number? So not sure if other combination of numbers with 8 (for wealth) will be better?

8 rhymes with many Chinese characters, such as 不 (no), 发 (make a fortune), 吧 (bar), 抱 (hug), 拜 (bye), and 爸 (father). So, must see the actual name to determine the meaning.

The name I'm interested in hand registering is 8Zhou8.com

The post I read on surnames is titled "Domain Data: Surnames, Part Two. What Is a Last Name Worth?" in the blog section.

I am thinking along the lines of combining numbers with one of the popular surnames that sold for $45K+.

Am I thinking along the right lines here? I'm a little afraid of getting things wrong and offending someone. My knowledge of the Chinese language is pretty much non-existent!

I have never thought about such combination. Baidu search does not have any hint of such pattern, so I'm not sure if it has any application for end users.

Hmmm. Think I need to read in to it more. Things are unclear to me about the Chinese language let alone the Chinese domain market!
