Company registers domain on first day of EAP.

Radix started the Early Access period for .store today.

Indeed, it has already paid off handsomely. Clothing company Hanes has registered T-Shirts.store through CSC Corporate Domains during the first day.

That’s right. A hyphenated .store domain name was registered on the first day of EAP.

After ABC.XYZ, this one T-SHIRTS.STORE is a good marketing opportunity for ngTLDs.

@Domain Lead Finder My interpretation is the brands are Registrant, in these examples CSC and BrandShelter/RRPproxy are the Registrars. If I had an Int'l brand I would use the high-end protection registrars too. Maybe I don't understand what you are saying

Great sale. I reckon a lot more will take advantage of the .store extension.

The hyphen must not bother them, it does work well with T-Shirts. Nice sale for Radix.
I should point this out to all those who crib about the hyphen in my B-School domain.

If companies are willing to shell out that kind of money on gTLDs, then our asking prices for solid .com domains look perfectly affordable and justified. When you think of it, the registries are also working for us .com holders.

you hit the hammer on the nail, with that statement. kudos.

Maybe I don't understand what you are saying

I am saying that the brand protection services are giving their clients bad advice on defensive registration, making them pay 27.000$ for a .store and my theory is that the brand protection service is in a "bro" deal with the registry. The fact that every .store domain I looked up was registered by a brand protection service makes me think this.

I may be wrong about the "bro" deal. Maybe the brand protection service called Radix and told them they want the domains for 10$/pop on day one or they will take them to court over selling their trade mark to others. The trade mark holders would have an easy day in court. So the 27.000$/pop figure looks awfully suspicious to me, and this is why I think the brand protection services get a cut.

Ok, can you find one example where the actual company is the registrant and not some mark protection service?

ikea.store ---> CSCglobal.com
marriott.store ---> CSCglobal.com
hanes.store ---> reserved not registered
marcjacobs.store --->CSCglobal.com
bmw.store ---> key-systems.net

BTW CSCglobal.com = CSC Domain Names
I think you're looking at the wrong info:

Sponsoring Registrar: CSC Corporate Domains Inc.

I am not disputing who owns the domain name, it is obviously IKEA. I am pointing at who the registrar is, a well known IP protection service, and this makes me think it was not IKEAS idea to pay 27.000$ for a .store domain.

CSCglobal = CSC Corporate domains.

Did they pay 27000? I didnt know that.
And you clearly referred to registrant and not registrar......you asked me to find one domain where the actual company is the registrant.......

My mistake about registrar and registrant you have a point there.

did they really pay 27000?
I know that the prices in the pre-fase are high, but was under the impression that Trademark holders had the right to claim their brandname in the sunrise phase for a regular fee (and a onetime fee of a few hundred dollars). Why would you pay 27000 for a name that is proven to be your trademark? With URS or UDRP you can start a case and claim the name. Cheaper than 27000.

While the new TLD registries have the right to reserve the best keywords and price them at will, after ten years in this industry I am skeptical as to the reported prices being paid for keyword / TLD combinations which I consider garbage. Yes, new TLDs are taking advantage of trademark holders which perhaps should be a legal issue. Dubious sales reports don't make investing in a new TLD a good idea.

Should have got T-Shirt.Store... The plural doesn't even sound right. What a waste of money. Someone should be fired.

I was thinking of not renewing my Tshirt.center, but this will make me spend the 14 bucks. ;)

I don't like the name they bought that much, but for Hanes it's much less than my "14 bucks dilemma". You always have to put things in perspective.

This is why I believe sales reports should be audited. Domain investors are basing acquisition / renewal decisions off reports which are questionable, may not represent true arm's length transactions or real market demand for domains with those keywords.

Should the FTC or SEC intervene in the marketing of domain names as INVESTMENTS?

per WIKI...Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is an independent agency of the United States government, established in 1914 by theFederal Trade Commission Act. Its principal mission is the promotion of consumer protection...15 U.S.C.§ 45 grants the FTC power to investigate and prevent deceptive trade practices. ....

The SEC has a three-part mission: to protect investors; maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets; and facilitate capital formation....
