The Chinese prefer numbers, then pinyin, then Roman alphabet,very little interest in Chinese characters. And short is preferred.
English words can be OK if relevant if it's a foreign company wanting to promote their product/ service back to their home country, travel related for instance.

The Chinese habit of the Chinese pinyin or the first letter of pinyin, words is not very there is a market in China, because China is not very good at English

So how would something like "virtualreality.cn" work for example? Is that good for the chinese market? (that one is taken)

Is .cn still THE extension to use? I read about two other extensions that used chinese characters. Dot Chinese Online (.在线) and Dot Chinese Website (.中文网)? What is the best extension to get and why?

.website & .online (Chinese characters) are simply new gtlds, no different to .whatever, they have been heavily promoted with initial registrations which will probably go the same way as most of the new gtlds.

If you want to go .Chinesecharacter then the only one that makes sense is .中国 which has been around for sometime. But like all IDN either before or after the dot there is very little interest in China.

If you want to see what is selling in .cn go to DNPric.es and search .cn

hello, I think it is a good idea to register .cn domain name for the Chinese market ! Most chinese people are used to visiting websites by type in roman alphabet,and Chinese customers have more familiar and intimacy feeling for .CN domains names when they visit your websites.

Is there a market for .cn yet ?

Yes, it is possible an english word followed by .cn, chinese people use both chinese characters and roman alphabet.

I registered SecureEmail.cn recently. My only .cn name. A little long but we'll see.
